205 grinding in 4 high etc.

I've been building a jimmy in the driveway for a few months now. Finally got the 205 case in (from a Yard) mated behind a Th 350. 4 low works great, when i pull the short lever all the way back into 4 hi it grinds bad and pops out of gear. I can put the truck in park, shifter in 4 hi and can turn the rear drive shaft. Linkage is where it should be. The oil looked fine when i changed it.

I know you said it was right but that sounds like a linkage issue.

It could also be a shift fork problem but I'm betting its shifter related.
