My 1 month old output shaft housing seal has been leaking ever since I installed it. I decided to buy another one and get the bushing to go with it. I just took the housing off and there are a few more bearings/bushings/seals then I thought would be in there. I have a few questions. In the first picture you will see the output shaft housing bushing and it is scratch pretty good. In the second picture you will find the slip yoke. The slip yoke is scratched pretty good too. Should I replace the slip yoke or just try to polish it up? The third picture is this little Black thing. What is it? I saw a part number on the little seal looking thing and got another one ordered. Any other suggestions while I'm in here? Oh yeah in the fourth picture I'm replacing that roller bearing.

And what's this little guys purpose? Is that supposed to be an O-ring around the O.D? I think I'm gonna take everything to work and freshen it up with the parts cleaner and hand blaster.

Yes, O-ring
If you have a Lethe, spin and polish the slip. Unless it's really deep scratches, dunno why that would be. If so, figure that out before ruining the next one.

That's all I got

When I replaced the housing seal I also changed the u joints. I didn't put the slip yoke back on right and I have some vibration. That vibration may have cause the scratches on the yoke.

I went to the parts store to try to find the seal in the picture below. They can't come up with anything. Does anybody know where I can find it?

I haven't installed all of the parts back yet. Hopefully I will have everything done by noon today. My company truck broke down so while its in the shop I will be tinkering with the blazer.

I was able to find the seal for the black disc looking thing. Napa found it for me and the part number on the SKF box is 22306 and its made in mexico :doah:.

As for the bushing kit I have a National Oil Seals brand (part number 5208)and the bushing is almost .040" smaller then the one I pressed out. This one just slid in and fell out. I went to Napa and got a SKF brand (part number 18998) and it is about .020" to small. I had the same result. A quick Google search showed that im not the only person to run into this bushing being to small. I found a thread that supplied a GM bushing number (3978765) and It is supposed to be here by 10:30 this morning.

I took the tail housing to work and hand blasted it. Also the face where the tail housing seal sit, I flat sanded it to get a nice clean and even surface. You could see were there were scratches in it from putting a screw driving on it. This is all I have for now. Oh, as for the slip yoke I did not remove it from the driveshaft but I put it in a vice grabed some 1"x 3' long 400 grit sandpaper and worked my way around it to polish it. I think it will be good to go.

The bushing was right. I didn't top the transfer case back off yet because I'm letting the permatex dry. I just had it towed to get some work done on it. I'll fill it back up when I get it back
