I have a 77 Blazer 3/4 ton full time 4x4. I got this from a guy that said it was all stock. I thus far have installed a 6in lift, rebuilt the 350, and installed 35s. I was changing the gear oil and the front had a tag that said 3.07. Can this be right? the front is a Dana 44 and the rear is a GM 12 bolt. Thanks

stock blazer gearing. time to get lower gear with the 35's.

Are you confused because the gearing is so high or that it is 3.07 vs. 3.08?

Thanks. I wasnt sure as all the 3/4 ton chevys I have had came stock with 3.73 or 4.10. Just didnt think this would have that gearing. Time to get a set of used axles with 4.10. Dont have $ for new ones and a rebuild. Never done axles and dont want to pay someone to do it.

hmm, was there a "3/4 ton Blazer"? other than the CUCV model,,but i thought those ran 1-ton axles,,

Dana 44 & 12 bolt = 1/2 ton stuff...3.07/3.08 common gearsets for certain year models.

Definitely a 3/4 ton. No doubt. That is what my title says. Also, MFG sticker rates it 6200LBs. 6 lug axles. Cool for emissions in colorado. Due to the size, no emissions standards. They just took it in and made sure it didnt smoke

CUCV model blazer (M1009) ran 10 bolts front and rear with 3.08's.

all blazers are 1/2 ton from the factory; 6 lug axles is 1/2 ton.

As long as colorado emissions sees it as a 3/4 ton due to that weight and considers it a "heavy duty farm truck" I dont care what it is. Why is the weight so much? Even my neighbors 76 suburban 4x4 is only 5100LBs. Mine is 6200. I checked around and most everyone I know that has an older blazer the sticker usually shows in the neighborhood of less than 5000? Just wondering as I cant find another 6200lb blazer

post up the vin or go to dremu's vin decoder on his site; perhaps it is not the original vin.

vin #CKL187F114221. Let me know if anyone knows. I am just curious. I have tried carfax.com but they dont go back that far. Up for any answers. Thanks

Thanks. Used the decoder and it is indeed a 1/2 ton. Why is it so heavy then? anyone know. Thanks

C...Chevrolet
K...4 wheel drive
L...350 4 barrel
1...'10' series, 1/2 ton
8...utility body
7...1977
F...flint plant

114221...build sequence.

Since we are talking about the subject of gearing. When I get say 4.10 gears, what does anyone think? I have the option for free of getting a 396 or 454. Anyone have any input as to what they may do? I am leaning toward the 396 myself

Some sort of clerical error somewhere I'd guess, true weight of a stock K5 is about 5000 lbs, and the only 3/4 ton or one ton K5's are 'built' by their owners.

Thanks. 5000. Thats what I thought. This has been confusing but per colorado emissions, this does weight that much and due to the weight and 4 barrel---heavy duty farm vehicle. No emissions standards!!!! Never had a smog pump or anything else for emissions.

I'd scale that truck...my old K5 with a 6.2 diesel, one ton diff's, 39.5" TSL's, 12 point cage etc etc weighed in a 6000 even. There is no way a stock '77 would come close, let alone weigh more unless you filled the doors with concrete first.

No '77 I'm aware of came with a smog pump, the '77 I had didn't have a cat either.

The weight is not 6200 lbs, the GVWR is.

That's the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. The curb weight of the truck was 4700 lbs, plus the 1500 lbs its rated to carry (since its a half ton) and you get the 6200 lbs.

In CO (and probably everywhere except CA) vehicles with a GVWR of 6000 lbs or more didn't need emissions equipment until '79 or so.
