are 3.42 gears any good just wondering, just found out that the gears i have.
I had them in my 89 and they were fine with 31s, but think they're a bit high for anything larger. I started to swap to 3.73 (got the rear in), but am now looking at a set of 4.10s. Another consideration is the 700r4 tranny (which you probably have). The overdrive allows you to run a lower ratio drivetrain without severely compromising highway performance.
That said, I think the general consensus is that 3.42 is a pretty high ratio for the size tires needed for serious offroading, but they work well for a smaller tire used predominately for highway driving.
yeah they are fine for 31"s. i have 3.73s and 36"s and my sub is gutless. but i have a set of 4.56s waiting to be installed /forums/images/icons/grin.gif
man, if you can afford to ditch them, go ahead. that's what i had in mine and hated every day driving it with just 33's.
if you want to run 31in tires or smaller they would be ok lol what size tires do you want to run?
ill be running 33's and 35's /forums/images/icons/grin.gif before too long.
