Hello,

This is my first time on here, but have been pretty active on Crown Vic forms in the past.

I have a problem with the steering column on my 1980 Chevy truck with a non tilt, 3 on the tree steering column.

It started off as a simple fix, as the ignition switch was buggered up and would only go in the run, start and off positions (no lock of acc). I tore the column down and replaced the ignition lock, which did not rectify the problem. I decided to try to go one step further and tried to remove the upper housing of the column. I took out the srews and tried to pull the housing towards me, which didn't work. Now I can hear the ignition cog trurning, but something lower/further into the column has been disconnected.

What I'm wondering is: does anyone have any idea how to fix this, or at least how to remove the column so I can work on it on a bench where everything is more accessable. I've looked around and all I can find is info on floor shift, or automatic models. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a thread I found that is somewhat useful, but not completly because it's an auto, and the column is already removed.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

For just removing the column it's pretty basic. Disconnect the two nuts the clamp the column to the forward dash section, remove the screws holding the seal plate against the firewall, disconnect all electrical plugs (careful! Some of them are a pain to unseat the connector) disconnect all mechanical components (steering shaft in engine bay, shift linkage, etc), and don't forget to remove the shift indicator piece (if it indicates gear).

Sorry I can't be more help, column shifted manuals aren't real common.
