i just got a 92 model 305 engine from a chevy caprice it had a 700r4 behind it.. i just put in a 79 k20 pickup with a turbo 400 well the dam bolt holes in the tourqe converter will not line up with the 305 flywheel.. well i just found this out after sitting in the engine and bolting it up and the headers can some one tell me where i went wrong ? i have been working on chevy trucks for over 30 years and never ran into this .:doah:

I would of thought it was dual pattern , two sets of holes drilled in it . Most are , as there is Powerglide , and TH patterns . It shouldn't matter whether its 153 or 168 tooth either , a th350 will fit the smaller one for sure .

Did you get any hole to line up with at least one hole ? If you can , rotate engine , more will probably line up .

no i didnt try to rotate the engine there was another hole in the flywheel it would not line up there niether. i will go out there and rotate the engine and see if any of them will line up it just had started to pour down rain as i got started trying to bolt up the converter

Must of been a specific to that car flexplate , now that I think about it , some 305's got a 153 tooth that only fit a few things .

Your going to want to go get a Pioneer form a parts store , 168 tooth , and find a starter to fit it . I know they are dual pattern , I just put one in my one piece main motor that is now bolted to a tranny from a two piece main truck . And they are SFI approved .

I have already done this,
You will need the th400 flexplate, whatever the took is. The 305 flexplate is too small. Now my old 305 starter works fine with the th400 flexplate.
Any other questions, let me know.
