Here is a very interesting problem

I have an 83 305 v8. I just recently replaced the air pump(for all that smog stuff, it recurculates exsuast air into the carb) becuse the bearings were bad. I found a bunch of metel clippings in the air cleaner. I cleaned them out. I still have debrie in the air cleaner and I get smoke burt smell from air duct. Maybe I missplaced the air hoses that go to the carb and air duct. Does that make any since? so... what do you think the proplem might be? The engine has 180,000 original miles on it. I plan on running the ehgine into the ground but would like to keep it going as long as I can

The shavings were probably from the bad air pump... And the burnt smell maybe be from Carbon build up or a pop through the carb.. If the oil pressure and temps are goo and it runs good, you should be fine..
