35 Spline Upgrade. Which ones?

I have the Yukon 35 SP inners & outers and drive flanges. I bought mine just before the "Broken" Yukon cromo news hit pirate. EVERYBODY was saying do not buy the Yukons. Well I already had and waited for them for months. No way in hell I was returning them. But, one thing I want to do is have them Cryogenically treated.

There was an article in Petersens 4 wheel years ago I saves that talked about it in WIlly's workbench. He has ALL his 35 splins shafts cryo treated and it's very affordable. Makes them last WAY longer. Also, there are a couple Pirate vendors that will machine the shaft cups to get up to 50deg turning radius, but it's not cheap. Grinding takes WAY WAY too long, but you do it if necessary.

When it's time, I'll have my shafts machined, then cryo-treated. They guarantee the shafts still after machining.

You must have never had a set? They have a good reputation in the drag community. I would not hesitate to run them in my 4x, I've had two sets in two other axles and know a lot of people running them with no compaints. Now they aren't a Mark Williams but for their Made in USA price they are a good axle.

Refused to pay for them considering the quality issues I witnessed, literally DOZENS of sets I have seen broken both at the strip and on trail. And Yes, I used MW axles on all my stuff.

Well yes if you use a 1541 alloy axle on a top dragster chassis you will probably break it. Most of moser car axles are 1541 I believe, which are considerably stronger than stock, but they aren't 4340. Also, the original front moser dana axles were that same material if I remember correctly, but the newer front moser axles are 4140, same as 4340 without the nickel. Stock 1030 axles can be hardened to a max yield strength of ~94 ksi, 4140 can be hardened to ~238 ksi, 4340 can be hardened to ~243 ksi. These are yield strengths, and the manufacturer may not hardened it to these strengths to keep the hardness down. But my point is, the guy lasted 4 years with a stock 30 spline, I don't think he needs to spend a boatload on superiors, and the moser can be 250% stronger than stock of the same size.

Now, mark williams offers standard alloy, 4340, and 300M axles, they make top end stuff, but they don't make front turning axles.

I still stand by moser products, they are good quality and will last a long time when used in the right applications. Plus they stand behind their stuff and its Made in the USA.

Your comments of broken axles on the trail does make me wonder if they did switch to 4140 material though because of that, the chrom-moly is a lot better material for a front offroad axle than a standard carbon steel alloy.

My guess would be yes for the cause, and good to know they made the change to 41.

Well WFO sells Dana 70 stubs for $100 each. I can assume ORD is prolly priced somewhere in that range.

Yukon stubs are $40 more and Superior are $70 more.

Once you add in 35 spline Flanges I wont be saving much by going with Spicer D70 stubs and I wont have the warranty. If I am gonna spend 4-5 hundred it may as well be once.

Any steering limitation issues with the ECGS kit?

I ran yukon outs at first with stock shafts and no problems. Had to polish off the edges of the yokes to fit into the knuckle. I now have superior inners and still no problem. I have a 10 Factory spare stub but haven't used it yet.
