I've got one in my truck now that I'd like to pull apart and hone the cylinders, install new rings, rod and main bearings and install a new cam and lifters/timing chain.

Would that be a cost effective alternative to buying yet another CL/boneyard engine as a temporary solution.? I'm not loking for a high performance upgrade.Just to freshen it up to get another couple years out of it til I can build my "ideal" engine.

I'll have $500 max. to do it with, and I'd like to be able to install a new stock replacement clutch kit and get a rebuild kit for my carb.Is this a feasable idea?

What would you do with a $500 limit? We're talking Budget rebuild here.No bore/stroke,aftermarket heads,or excessive machine work.

FWIW,I also have a completely tore down 350 4 bolt main sitting here. It was given to me complete but had a broken crank.I took the main caps off and the crank came out in two pieces.A friend pulled it immediately after noticing some bad vibes and didn't want to totally destroy the engine.

Click on "Our famous 350 engine kit" right on the homepage and go from there. You can go a cheap as $189.99 for the master kit (cam, lifters, timing set, pistons, rings, bearings, oil pump, freeze plugs, gaskets), or add to it with more parts (ballancer, rods, intake, oil pan, etc). Or upgrade to Felpro gaskets, Clevite bearings, Crane or Comp cams. Even there base parts are name brand stuff (Fedral Mougal/Sealed Power/Speed Pro, Victor Reinz). I have used them for several rebuilds (3 of my motors, and atleast 14 customer motors). No complaints with them. For a basic rebuild you can't go wrong. Even a mild performance rebuild is still a good buy from them.

They also offer re-ring kits if you wish to only go that route...but for the price you can't beat new parts.
