I would prefer not to carry a 35in spare tire around. Would it be ok in a situation where I just ran a 31in spare up front and then 35in tires all around? I would just need to run it to the nearest tire station.... which could be a long ways depending upon where I get a flat.

That doesn't sound like a good idea...

33... Maybe.
31 is just too different.

Unless you have those 34", 35's.
Then maybe.... For a few miles.

So long as you don't have a locker and have different sized tires on the same axle you'll be ok.

Yes for real, there will be no damage as long as there isn't a locker involved. The truck will lean for sure but to get to a place to have the 35" tire repaired it's not a big deal.

Yes so to answer the op what he asked can be done.
I would only do it in the front and to be safer unlock hubs and run in 2wd

This.

On the front off road, good to go. On the highway, hubs unlocked and 2wd. Otherwise the truck will crab and walk and do all kinds of weird stuff. Been there done that.

Its not uncommon, and should work Ok.
Especially if you have hubs you can unlock. Then it would not matter if you had a front locker or not.
If you can't unlock the hubs, and don't have a posi or locker, then just keep the speed down a little and it should be OK.

The spider gears will get a little more wear, but not much.

Just remember that the steering and braking are going to be changed, in some cases drastically.

I run a street tire spare on my 250 with 12:50-33s. Naturally the only times I have ever needed it, the flat was on the rear.
Since I have a clutch-type posi, I had to put the spare on the front, then put the front tire on the rear.

Actually did not look any sillier than a car driving down the road with one of those space saver spares.

For sure I would need to unlock the front hubs. I would run both a 35in and 31in tire on the front. It would only be to get to the nearest tire station.

Emergancy type of situation thats fine. I run a 38" spare with 42s no big deal.

Different sized spares are pretty much used to get you out. Remember you can always air down a big tire to get it closer to the height of the smaller one
