I have a carrier for a D60 rear end that had 3.08 gears and I just recently bought a ring and pinion for 4.10 gears. My dad was about to put the ring on the carrier but says they're different diameters. Is this right? Is there something I can do to make it work. If I can't... does anyone have a carrier for 4.10 gears in a D60 rear end...? Help please...

**Update - The lenth diameter of the outside of the ring is 9.75 inches. The diameter from center of bolt hole to center of opposite bolt hole is 7.5 inches.
And for the last time... it is a dana 60... here's a freaking picture...** (this is the 4.10 ring)

I Think You Have The Wrong Gearset. Iirc, You Need To Buy Thick Gears When Going From Anything Lower Than 4.10 To 4.10 Or Higher. You May Have Bought Standard Sized Gears... Hope This Helps.

I'm not aware of the diameter changing between different ratios for the same axle, only the thickness of the ring gear.

The Dana 60 + 3.08 gears just doesn't sound right to me either.......did they even make Dana 60's with that high of a gear? I thought that was what the Dana 61 was made for???

Says 60 on my Axel housing, counted up ring and pinion... I have 3.08 gears. But when I unbolt the ring from the carrier, and try to bolt up the 4.10 gears, the 4.10 has a diff diameter... So where can I buy a new carrier... how can I tell if my gears are thick or standard?

What truck did the axles come from???
8 lug right????
Pics and measurements would help...

3.08's....just doesn't seem right...in a 60.

1974 GMC Jimmy, They are Dana 60's, and they are 3.08, they are 6 lug axels. Should I just buy a carrier to match the 4.10's?

6 lugs???? Custom rear ??? Not stock rear.. 44/12b's stock.

Pics???

Measure the ring gear.

give use a pic of the cover please. i think its not a dana 60. the 60 would be in one of the 4 corner webs not up that far. and would be a lot smaller in size with no gm next to it

 :( 14 sf rear sorry not dana 60:frown1: that is not a dana cover style. that is for sure a 14semi float 14 bolt 9.5 ring gear.

left pic dana 60 and right is 14sf 9.5
