4.3L fan clutch assembly

How do you "hold the pulley styationary" like the HAINES book says to when you are removing the fan clutch assembly?

it is the new style that has the big nut that i guess bolts directly to the water pump.

I leave the belt installed. It grips the pulley pretty well. If you still need more gripping power, you might try one of those big strap wrenches to hold the pulley.

thats kinda what i was thinking.
but my bro came over and got it off with a claw hammer and a pair of channel locks!!!!

made me feel like an idiot.

there is a tool that locks on the bolts for the pully and holds it that way.
