I have a 88 crew cab with 454, m465, and 205. Was wondering what it would take to install a 4L80E in there instead of the m465? Would a 4L80E out of a 91 bolt right up? This is going to be my tow rig so I'm wanting that 5th gear. May also look into the NV4500, but from what I understand about that swap I have the wrong style of 205, refering to the long version. Looking for any help, opinions, suggestions and most importantly people who have actually done one of these conversions. Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The 4L80E has got 4 gear ratios : 1st 2.48, 2nd 1.48, 3rd 1:1, 4th .75..... Its a computer controlled Tranny but I think you can get a piggy back to go with it from TCI, Jet, Sallee. The 2nd gear bands were a little small till 1998-1999. So they changed them to larger bands. Kinda like going from 30 splines to 35 splines. It should bolt up just fine to your engine. Fully connecting it may be a different story. I know a few guys on here are runnign them. The maybe able to help you.

Sorry about the confusion, I know the 4L80E has 4 gears. When I said 5th gear I was refering to the NV4500. I'm just looking for that O.D. gear for towing. Thanks for the replies, and keep them coming.

See what the cost of the 4L80E is with all the necessary junk to go with it and then price a NV5600(six gears= granny and OD!!!!!) You might be happier that way.
