Let me start at the begining , i have an 82 blazer which i have converted to a np205 (bear in mind it didnt have a 4x4 transfer case in it when i bought it). its all fitted and running great! The problem i have is when i put it into 4x4 the small light doesnt come on on the dash ? what i did when i installed the 205 was connect the wire that was hanging around were the old transfer case was (think it was a 208) and change the connecter to fit the 205,Any suggestions.Ive spent months getting all the dash lights to work, this is the only one that doesnt now

It probably the connection at the TC. Mine works when it feels like it, otherwise the 4x4 is perfect.

The light needs a ground from the T-case to come on. You could unplug the connector at the t-case and stick a wire in it to ground it. This will test all of the wiring. You could also verify with an Ohm meter that that the switch in the t-case is providing a path to ground (when in 4WD). On my 85, that wire is routed through a relay under that dash. It interrupts the TCC lockup in 4WD until you get into 4th gear. Maybe that will help you find the wiring. The bulb could also be burned out.

Of course you don't really need that light. You already have an indicator on the shifter. I would rather have a light that shows when the hubs are locked.

I know the plug on my 208 was hard to get to plug in. Of course once I got it plugged in, the first time I used 4wd at night, I promptly crawled under and unplugged it cause that light got REALLY annoying, probably because it was brighter than my stock gauges.

Are you sure your NP205 had a connector for the 4x4 dash light? Reason I ask is because early GM Np205s didnt have that option.

Pretty sure GM didnt offer the 4x4 dash light until mid/late 70's

I know by atleast 1979 it was standard, and was used through 1991

It has the switch on the top passenger side of the transfer case, as i said in my first thread i just connected the wires that were hanging there to the plug that fits the switch.Ive also noticed that there is a small light on the same lead i assume there was a np208 tc on it before , think that was the light for the 4x4 gear shifter.Gonna pull out the dash and check the bulb.

Just remember that circuit is a negative switched circuit. Power to the bulb is always there, and there is one wire that connects back to the switch on the transfer case. When the switch is activated, it simply completes the path to ground. If you pull the whole IP panel out (which you shouldn't have to do to check the bulb, a careful reach up in there and you can pop the bulb out), the IP pulls general power from one of the 2 main power leads to the dash, sends it thru the 4x4 bulb, and has a separated trace back, that wire goes down to the transfer case. If you see 2 wires hanging near the transfer case, one should go to ground, the other should always have power. If it doesn't, then your bulb is toasted, or the power feed to the gauge panel isn't working (and niether would any of your other lights on the gauge panel too).

Thanks for all that info 73 k5 , i pulled the dash today and noticed no bulbs!! , so ile put some in and give it a try . The wire that is hanging down is black and white put they just go directly into the plug,is the plug different on a np208 ? coz i had a full time 4x4 front diff before i changed it to the d 44 and np205 .
