6.2 diesel fuel filter

new to forums and new to diesels, soo my question is this. when removing and replacing the fuel filter on a 6.2 equiped vehicle, is it just pull off and replace or is there more to it?? any help here would be great. i just got this suburban, and want to do what i can to it, ahead of time. thanks

cool corey woods here. just got this burban this morning, guy drove it down to me he is part of wheelindixie.com. good guy. ive never owned a diesel so im learning there, but been a mechanic most my life so i just want to make sure i do things right. thanks for the direction.

As long as it's the same as the cucv filters, first pull the pink wire off the top of the injection pump, then loosen the top and bottom bleeder screws. Then pop the old filter off and put the new one on, tighten up your bottom bleeder screw, crank till fuel comes out the top one, tighten that up and plug in the pink wire and your good to go.
 
In this vein - I have a 6.2l M1009. I'm getting ready to put a shackle flip in the back, which means I have to drop the tank. Do I have to do the stuff above, or will the fuel stay in the lines and just fire up after I put it back in?

hey gt i dont think its the same its rectangle shaped and on the firewall, it has no wires or bleeder screws that im aware of. hmmmmmmm ill have to look into this but thanks anyways.

Air locking the 6.2 is what you want to avoid. Any introduction of air into the system can make things very difficult.

It's important to remove the pink wire from the injection pump (front top center of engine) That should be step one. Next is to replace your filter...if you have the spin on type it's faster to pre-fill the new filter, then spin it on. Undo the feed line going from the filter assembly to the injection pump and have a small container ready. Unplug the glow plugs and crank the engine 15-20 seconds at a time with a 1 minute rest between cranking until you get fuel being pumped out the line from the filter.

Reconnect the line to the IP, plug the GP's back in, plug pink back in...cycle GP's and start the truck. It may run a little rough for a minute or two, and then smooth out.

You're done.

RR...similar for you. Unplug the pink, drop your tank and do what you need to. When the tank is back undo the feed line from the filter (prolly a good time to change filters anyways) to the IP and crank til fuel pumps out. Reconnect everything and you should be fine.

Remember to take it easy on the starter. Crank for 15-20 seconds...then give it a chance to cool down (1 minute) and repeat. The 6.2 has over 21:1 compression so the starter will overheat if you don't allow it a cooling period.

on the top of it should be a black round piece with a "cross" in it. Im pretty sure thats the bleeder screw. The pink wire you are looking for is on the injection pump. Look in front of the air cleaner. Mine looks kind of orange, with age I guess.

I've never done this either, but the above I think is pointing you in the right direction.

The bleeder and wires are not directly attached to the silver filter, but go right onto the base that filter attaches to.

As mentioned, on the top passenger side there should be a plastic bleeder knob with a barb sticking out the side. I put a length of hose on the barb that runs into an empty oil quart container. There are also wires, at least for the water sensor, going to this base.
 
i guess if i opened my eyes and put my glasses on and got my big ol head out the way, i can see what you are talking about, hmmmmmm dee dee dee on me. i applogise for my ignance lol. thank you all again.

ok what does the line to the barb on the side into an empty jar do?? i see everything else.

When you bleed the lines eventually fuel will come out of it, running a line to some sort of container just catches the fuel versus letting spray/drip over everything.
 
ok and do that while the upper bleeder screw is open when decent amount of fuel comes out then close the bleeder?? ok things went from huh?? to i can do that, lol. thanks blazer.
