Hey all,

I am currently looking at buying a '93 GMC 2500, 6.5TD/4l80E. Seller describes it as having a random limp mode issue ( I have researched it some and it appears to be common).

The owner says the transmission has been rebuilt and "rechecked multiple times" and it still has the same issue.

Is the truck worth going for (its priced really well IMO) even though it has this issue? Odometer reads 265K.

Reason I am looking at this truck in the first place is I want a diesel pickup to eventually daily drive and do some work with.

Right now my price range has me stuck at beat up old 300K+ trucks and this one is in really good shape, its just the trans I'm worried about.

Any help is appreciated, thanks

Codes?
What does fluid look like?
Ground wires?
Bad TPS?

Looking around on the net, those last two items seem common for an intermittent limp mode.

Maybe a good deal if the owner is truthful about the rebuild.
Maybe ask for reciepts.
Maybe ask to have an independent shop run the codes.

Man, this is why i like older stuff.
Then agaim, that OD is nice.

Thanks for the quick reply, I’ll take a look at that list and try to talk to owner about what’s been done.

I agree, old stuff is at least simpler to diagnose. I’d almost swap in a nv4500 into this truck potentially like I did my half ton.

Problem with the older used diesel market nowadays is huge price inflation which doesn’t help any
