Can I get a 2wd trans, or is there a case difference or anything? The trans is going out in my truck and Id like to get a trans to have rebuilt so my truck isnt down more than 1 day.(pull bad trans and have rebuilt one sitting there waiting.) Do I have to find a 4wd unit? Anyone have a core that needs rebuilt?

You need another 4WD tranny, the mainshaft is a different length, and the 2WD cases don't have the provisions for the heavy flywheel cover used on the 4WD models.

You could always have a tranny shop rebuild a 4x4 700R4 for you and tell them you have a core that you will return after your swap is done. They will charge you a core charge then give it back once your old one comes back to them. Now they might wait to tear yours apart before giving you back any core charge money since there could be serious internal damage to your tranny which could make it no good as a core to build for someone else. Just a thought.

If you dont mind me asking how much are they charging you for a rebuild? I went to a local tranny shop that I was told was good and they told me $1500 to rebuild a 700R4 /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif My eyes lit up I was thinken well I can get a B&M 700R4 for $1700 TCI's & Jet Performance's are about the same to

A guy puts ads in The Flint Journal (Flint, Michigan) selling rebuilt 700R4s for $300 for a car.

Around where I live now it costs $1900+.

If you come across anyone that can get a 700 case, let me know. I looked all over today, and no one want to sell me a 87+ core, just a rebuilt unit.
