700R4 or Turbo 350

My 700R4 gave out on me and im looking for a rebuilt tranny, nothing to expensive, and just wondering which route to go. Benifits of each? Will be going in my 87 K5 with a 305, and i mainly use it for off roading with some road/highway driving. Any help/suggestions would be great, thanks!

I hear that 700s can be built pretty strong. Im getting one built now. They have alot lower geared 1st gear which is a plus for off roading. But i beleive a th350 can be built for alot cheaper. Jusy no OD like a 700 for highway.

Also if you look at companies that build trannys ready to go im pretty surecyou can get a th350 for around $900 where a 700 from the same company will run almost double it seems.

Ive had bad bad luck with the 700r4,in fact ive been through 4 ,so im gonna say 350, but my opinion is partial .

Yeah, ive seen them both really cheap on craigslist. But with that i really dont know what im getting. Whereas i have someone rebuild my own, ill know what im getting, but ill pay a lot more. And yeah, ive heard 700s can be a pain too, so i really dont know right now. And if i go with a 350, then i gotta get a new t case...

If your going 350 id just go fo a th400 if u dont want OD, much stronger. And just noticed your from michigan. Cool! Maybe ill see ya at the dunes sometime!

Another thing to consider is you will need driveshaft lengths changed if you change trannys, different crossmembers possibly. I dont think u would have to change tcases but im not sure, probably just the adapter from tranny to tcase.

Yeah man, i was just up at silver last sat. Thats when my reverse quit working on me...Im hoping it isnt the tranny, but i got a buddy thats gonna look into it who used to rebuild them, so he'll know whats goin on. Im just thinking ahead, if worst case senario...But hopefully its just something small.

Yeah definently! It sucks though...cause i got tons of weddings and a bunch of other stuff coming up. I prob wont be able to get up there again till mem day weekend.
