700R4 where did 3rd gear go

What could be wrong when going down freeway slow 45-50 and it was like it went into neultral so I put in 2nd and it got me home. It was in drive I never put it in overdrive and I just put in a trans temp gauge and it was only 180, and what realy sucks is I was driving back from the exhaust shop. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

3rd went bye bye. throw the trans away, its done.

Mine did the same thing awhile back, i was told that the 2-3 clutches died, needs rebuilt.

Ether your clutches just wore out simply by wear or your servos need reconditioning.

I was told to try some diesel <font color="blue"> </font> fuel in the trans for temp fix any one ever here of doing that

Time for another 700r4, 3rd &amp;4th gear clutch packs are toast!
In my opinion the 700r is not a good canidate for a novice rebuild /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

anyone know of a good transmission shop here in bayarea, going to call and get some quotes tomorrow on a rebuild with some upgrades.

4th gear is likely fine, the direct clutch is gone so 3rd gear wont engage. cant get to 4th to mess it up.

actually 3rds and 4th use the same clutch pack in the 700r4, the only difference in 4th is the band is applied and the forward sprag isn't holding. if 2nd works then its not the band, so it is the 3-4 clutch packs.
