So I got a chance to look at the blazer today and it turns out some peoples idea of "perfect" is different than mine.
The top was in sorry shape, cracks, etc. ALL of the seals were missing. Rear hatch was cracked and the side braces were missing. It did indeed have a "hardwood" floor, over plywood. I wasn't able to pull up enough of it to get a solid look at the floor, but I bet it was covering nasty stuff. I found a spot with some deep bondo on it, and there was some piss-poor repair work done to the windshield frame. Looked like they just welded some metal over the rust and painted it. The tailgate was a crappy aftermarket with rust bubbling through already. The "1-ton" axles ended up being an 8 lug D44 with a 14bolt FF. Tires were completely bald. It had a big block in it at one point and so the firewall had some serious BFH work done to it too. Door locks are missing, drivers side outside door handle is broken and the rear latch is rusted solid.
Overall it's not a good start for a resto job, and it's missing a lot of stuff so not really good for a parts truck either. On the plus side, it is pretty much rust free, and the doors opened and closed better than mine. :P
I took a friend of mine with me and he would like to buy an old blazer to start playing with. It wasn't worth anything to me, but he asked me what I thought it was worth as a start to building a wheeler. I told him from that perspective, I'd go maybe $1000. He told me to see if the seller was willing to go that low for it and the seller came back with a $1500 counter-offer. My friend wanted to think about it some more, but I told him he should stand firm at 1K. An engine, tranny and tires would get it back on the road, but it would take way too much to turn it into something "nice".
We'll see if he decides to buy it or not.
