72 K5 "About Time". Windshield Header Bow time.

For a stock-ish restoration OEM rubber is the way to go. Poly mounts can be squeaky and you really don't need the extra stiffness / harshness. IMHO

The nice woman I bought the 72 from texts me every time she finds something for it. Like when she found all the original hub caps and apparently manual for the truck.

She has a "pile for bill" at her father's house. Today she sent me this! Which I'm happy about since I intend on using the seat. Only thing I am missing still is the interior panels for the rear. I'll be on the hunt for those one day!:rolleyes:

The windshield has small crescent shaped "indexes" on the inside of the frame (where the glass was).... Find those before you cut everything apart. They will be helpful when fitting new parts. As you can appreciate, the new frame needs to be a VERY close match dimensionally to the old one or your glass will never go back in.

I will look for them tomorrow. I will be very careful for sure. As with everything else. :whistle:

Would you ever brace from top to bottom to maintain the position of the header while you install the pillars? :dunno:
 
The crescent is in your first photo....about 4" down from the top corner.

If you can cut the spot welds and replace one piece of the header at a time you will probably have a simpler time keeping things from shifting around...

Obviously it will make sense when I have the 3 new pieces. Yes i plan on doing one piece at a time. I learn from watching the pros! :popcorn:
 
I picked up some goodies today. I got my rear bench seat, a set of like new hub caps and these gems! :pimp:

Just a couple of the progress made this past weekend. Motor trans and t case were pulled. I removed all goodies from the firewall and removed all brake and fuel lines with the exception of the rubber lines to front axel, I was tired:whistle:

But it is getting cleaner and it is just about that time to start getting involved in rust repair! Hopefully ill have some more quality time this weekend. :thumb:

rear cab support

Since I am shopping, I do not remember anyone mentioning the purchase of the rear cab support....Is this not an issue or is this for p/u trucks only...:dunno:

Figured it out.....As you can tell it is raining and I work outside....Time to order parts!

Just ordered all rocker rocker box floor patch piece, a and b pillar basically everything to repair the structural support areas on the k5!! And body mounts....thanks Greg....:bow:

Told you I was serious!!:pimp:

Just need to pick up some basic metal. Sheet and square tubing to BRACE THE DOORS!
 
rust prevention

Always looking to the seasoned guys for input on things...

What do we all like using for bare metal coating for rust prevention and durability?

When purchasing sheet metal for patches do you use galvanized sheet or just raw sheet?

I thank you in advance for your wealth of knowledge:bow:
