So Cal.
I cut a window for access to mount my cage better. Anyone with a 73' thru 75' k5 ever use this area for storage? I know alot cut out the rocker and weld in a rectangle tube for a rocker but you could still run rock sliders under the body to the frame that protects the rockers and use this as some kind of extra storage. Could make a hinge and lock setup of somekind. Its not water tight but I dont plan on mud running, but Im sure i will cross a stream or two. Could coat it inside there. There is a decent amount of room for something. Just a thought. Mine only has surface rust inside, not bad for a 73'. What do you guys think?

I would actually like to boat side it but I dont know if I will go that far.

I never updated this thread. Finished painting the inside of the double walled space between the floor on my 73'. Came out really nice. Still need to finish re-mounting the door with a hinge so it seal pretty weel to keep mud/water out. I don't know if I can completly seal the entire compartment but that would be really cool if I could. Have not really looked at actually doing that. Still might boat side it possibly, so these miight get cut out mostly anyways.

Yeah, it's crazy what we consider rusty and what the east considers rusty. This was not bad rust at all. It cleaned right up for the most. More then good enough for rust inhibitor paint. No rust pitting at all.

What is boatside?

This is boat siding.

Making massive room for rock crawling at the rockers.

Its a good thought but access would be really hard with the tire in the way

Well then everytime I need to get something out of there I will just take the tire off, problem solved! :D:haha:. I here ya, It's actually got a good bit of room even with the tire on it for access. Might be a good place for a tow strap or something east to get in & out. It's storage space, got to be good for something.

My truck without a fuel tank and 38's no shocks, sitting on the springs. Sits pretty high with the 63" spring conv. and 4" shackle flip. 38's look small. No interior but thats no real weight either. Lots of room for access to it.

Well its going to get wet and or muddy so I would limit to stuff like that can get that. Could you do a inside the cab floor access and then caulk and seal it all then other stuff could go in.

lookin good. clean truck. how many leaf springs in the pack? I would take a leaf spring out maybe.

Crazy high right! Those are out of a 1/2 88' pickup. Stock 2wd truck out of the junk yard. Could be just that there's no weight in the rear and the front is on jack stands. Again, no fuel cell, no rear bumper, things like that.

Those are more commonly known as Rocker Boxes and the pic's you took are a good reference for anyone looking to restore, or rebuild theirs. That is one part not available in the aftermarket from my understanding.

Mine had the same stance with it high in the rear. Just wait till you put a box in the back full of tools and parts. I have to actually raise the rear now.

Part of the reason it looks sooo high is the amount of sheet metal I cut out too.
