hey I was looking for an easy upgrade to replace the plugs and also the wires/cap/rotor ect.
Is there a direct drop in replacement that wouldn’t require any addition work like timing adjustment ect for the truck at a resonible price?
I’m finding a couple packages on Amazon form under $100 but with no reviews or instructions so not sure if they are a good deal or not and what all would be needed to do the change

Going to that HEI is probably your best option

You need to check the voltage going into your current coil. Some are supplied 6v from a resistor wire. If so that wire needs replaced so 12v can be supplied

You might check if you already have HEI. Lots of people updated them already. The aftermarket distributors are sometimes not so great. I had an MSD that leaked a ton of oil even with seals. Replaced it with a stock AC delco and it’s been great.

Links keep going dead, but I've got an ignition system "shootout" from Four wheeler magazine or similar from years back. The "stock" HEI setup (HEI is high energy ignition, what replaced points) beat out all the aftermarket units as i recall.

If you already have HEI, you won't gain a thing by "upgrading" any of the components, as long as they are already in good shape, and you aren't running a wild engine under hard conditions.

How would I know it it has been changed over to HEI by looking at it?

Well changed plugs today and they were all so loose just over hand tight
Didn’t look horrible but a little dark and dirty and real rusty exteriors

New plugs in tight and truck Started in half a key turn pretty crazy the difference just from the plugs

Not sure if I even need to do more now ...lol

That link will take you to a HEI pic. If you don' have one, get one. Don' buy an aftermarket one, many of em aRe made in China. Buy a used one from any SBC at a boneyard.

Their spark is much better.

You are gonna have to make sure that it gets 12V. If you already have one, measure your voltage, they like 12v.

But, you may not be able to change the dizzy yourself. Not that hard to do, you just pull the cap, notice where #1 is at, turn ur motor to where the rotor is pointing @ #1, pull the dizzy and install the new one, w/the rotor pointing @ #1...people will tell you that it will only go in 2 dif ways....hogwash, if you jiggle it right, it will go in 8 dif ways, once for every tooth on the distributer gear.
