will a stock rollbar from a 75 (not 73) blazer fit into my 81?

no, not without modification. The floors for 1st gens are raised behind the front seats while second gens have a foot area for the rear passengers. the front bars will be too short.

73-75 are the same, and even will fit up to 77 then 78 and up the floor changes that's why you need to modify to make it work.

Has anyone actually done it though? I have the factory bar from a '75, and going by some quick measurements, the bar seems like it's too tall to fit my '77. It seems the full fiberglass top would give a little more clearance. And were there two different factory roll bars used in '73-'75?

Well I had a 73 and a 74, and both factory roll bars were the same, I had a 73 with an aftermarket roll bar that was completely different.
I only assumed the 75 would fit in the 77 because the floor is the same but it might be a problem with the half top, didn't think about that one.:doah:

My '75 bar does not have the long rear kickers that bolt to the rear wheel wells. It just has shorter diagonal supports that are much lower and bolt to the floor right in front of the wheel wells. It also is one piece and doesn't come apart.

I have the factory 75 bar in my 83 K5 , with a sleeve over each front leg . We measured so I can put the top back on .

And I have a 75 that started with a factory roll bar .

If your 77 isn't the same as a 73/75 well then , cut it and sleeve it :D

On a side note , I do believe I have seen a couple different styles of early roll bar ( I own them both :pimp: ) . One went to the back more on the rear legs , and one went to the front of the rear wheelwell . but I don't know which one , or both , were factory or a common aftermarket bolt on .

This pic shows my 75 truggy with the ones style . I gotta find a pic of my 83 , or go take one .

The '76 and '77 have the same floor as the 73/75, but that doggone halftop looks like it will get in the way. Something's going to get chopped, lol.

Those are the two styles of bar that I have seen and also believe to be factory.

I found my 83 pics with the other rollbar where it mounts to the actual wheelwell .

I had a factory 75 bar (short diagonal legs) in a 76 I used to have, it was too tall, I ended up cutting the plates off of it and welding on new ones. I don't remember how much I had to chop off, it wasnt a whole lot. Sorry no pics that was approx 10 years ago.

The ones I had were the short legs, I know they were factory because they had provisions in the floor, the nuts were part of a plate on the bottom, just like the seats, and it also was bolted to the B pillar which helped the sides stay stiff with the full removeable top.
We had a 73 with an aftermarket job that bolted the rear leg to the top of the wheel well, it was a lousy design and ripped thru the wheel well and didn't have the side mount to the B pillar.
