First of all I'd like to thank everyone in advance for your ideas and comments. You guys have always been helpful. To start, I have a 76 k5 that has a donor drive train from a 75 pick-up. I had the rear driveshaft from the pick-up cut, but I measured wrong and it was about 3 inches to short. I then bought a drive shaft from a 79 model k5. It bolts up, but the splines are peaking out the tranny end. Not sure what transfer case is in it. Just wondering if the trucks of that year had shorter tail pieces than the k5? Also, guy told me he had changed the transmission fluid, but the tranny had set outside. Fluid looked good upon inspection, so installed it. After running for a few minutes, I checked the fluid level and it was frothy and foamy pinkish. After further inspection I discovered there was a hole in the dip stick tube about half-way down. I'm guessing that water got in the fluid. I have fixed the dip stick tube. Now I am wondering what I can do since I have ran the truck, and it did have water in it, how much fluid would it take to change out to fresh. I know I can't get it all because some will remain in the torque converter. One guy suggested removing the pan and running the engine for a short period of time to let it pump the "bad" fluid out. Just wondered if I done this, how fluid I might need available to refill with? Sorry for the long post.
