seriously guys, stay with the white wheels?, I was wanting it to be blingin' while towing! The two tone will stay, and maybe I'll wait on the sim's for now. But I ain't ruling them out...I think they would look better with the silver sides, than the white wheels do.

AJ, you still got the number for the powder coat guy up here in MI?
Honestly, and no offense to anyone here who has professed a positive thought towards them, but I think those simulators are cheesy. Like those "spinners" hubcaps that some folks run. Expensive and shiny...but still not the real thing.
There's a craftsman near me with a GM breadvan with a set of those Pacific Dually simulators on them. Granted his aren't in the great shape you'd keep yours in I'm sure but you can rather easily tell they aren't real Alcoas or other aluminum dually rims.

I say powdercoat them white and rock the retro look or save up for some real aluminum dually bling.

I can get that number...I think.

I'm with him ^, except for the bit about running aluminum wheels later. I wouldn't change the pain either though. I do no like the simulators. I would just run the adapter lug nuts, and run a set of the newer dually hub caps.

I'd say not only forget the sim's, but keep the two tone part white. Either rock the retro look all the way or not at all. Mixing some retro stuff with some newish stuff never looks good IMHO. Grey/silver mid band two tone was very 80's and early 90's. It just doesn't fit with this truck

Could just be that my least favorite color anything is grey/silver/vomit. I couldn't even tolerate the silver on my ralley rims for long. They're black now.

Sometimes less is more, and this is one of those times.

Idk, if dave likes em, thats all that really matters I think.

Those are on all the cube vans at work and I think they look really good, I would paint the wheels silver underneath instead of white though, so you cant tell they are caps as much.

Sorry guys, but.... Regadrless of what any of us thinks, IT's YOUR TRUCK DAVE:thumb: I say go silver and rock the sims if you want:D

These are sims. crappy truck but the wheels look good

Dave, just get the shiny ones, they look sweet.

Holy crap....sounds like I opened a can o worms....
Rene' I really liked my 85' Apple Red/ Silver met paint...now the base was Red, the lower rocker area was Silver along with the top of the cab, I'm sure you've seen the way they did the two tone then....so not real sure if it will look as good as I'm thinking with the Silver in the middle here. But I do know I gotta change that reddish orange...just too much orange for me in it....gotta darken it down some, more red to it....maybe a Torch Red like the Vette?

Well sure Dave, and I'm sure it looked real good on your 85

I think it's kinda like putting 19's on a classic 'vette. It's too removed from the original flavor to look good.

yeah, but not trying to recreate the 85, just use the colors....as a matter of fact I was considering painting the trim on instead of stickin' the metal ones on!

blasphemy!!!

:haha:

It's your rig Dave...you know that. Me and a few others are just offering up our biased opinions. Seeing your work on the 'vette and the maiden I'm sure it'll be sexy no matter which direction you choose.

That being said my 90 will get the round light front clip, pre-81 dash, '70's emblems, the aluminum trim and the two tone with white in the center. Aside from the fuel door it should look as close to a '76 as I can make it. Most likely gonna go with white powdercoated 16's and the dog dish hub caps too.

The drivetrain, well I have too many options right now so that's still up in the air.

ah ha....the truth comes out Rene':waytogo:....I really dig the round eyes....just looks like an era of cool to me in these trucks. When Eric started looking for me, I insisted on that, instead of the 80's look. The two tone was also highly desired in the final product but not necessarily right now, just turned out that way.
Here was the example I give Eric to look for

Anyhow this is just MY preference. I think I can pull off what I'm thinking on this, and although maybe not an original look, it will be just custom enough to make knowledgeable people like you notice the subtle changes.

Its your truck so I say do what you want with it. I personally like the stock look of the 70's trucks, but thats my opinion. If you do decide to paint the trim on I'll take the metal trim you take off. If you dont want it and dont destroy it trying to take it off :waytogo:

Thanks Abram, I'll take your advice!
I think I'll also keep the moldings unless I find better ones somewhere. Just don't want to get rid of original stuff.
Also checked the engine numbers today. Its the original still in there.

I worked on repairing a loose shifter linkage, but snapped off the end of the shifter shaft that goes in the trans. So while I had the pan off replacing that, I put on a new filter and gasket, along with a deep pan too. It looks pretty good in the old pan.

Also had to make up some rear sway bar links, as no one seems to have any idea what I'm talking about with a rear sway bar on a C30, no listing for it.
Also repaired a loose shock bolt, and now this thing rides better than my 99 does.

So here is a close up of the painted wheel and a reference shot of the sims on it.

I think it looks good that tall you should find a 60 front LOL

Yeah, those pictures definitely make me stick to my opinion to not run the simulators.

yah,

I like Shiny things so it is what it is. I like Gus idea of the beauty rings and chrome trim from the newer trucks. I think that would be cool and still give it the 70s look big time.

Cause if you were pimpin a truck in the 70s it had to be all chromed out!
