76 k5 build thread -- gaps suck

Same here, especially the choice to follow the fender line in front!

yea I think its gonna look really nice now I just gotta find a silver to match the same size and amount of metallic that the blue has not to course probly like a lexis silver.

I bolted the nose back on so I can get everything lined up so I can be sure that the rockers are in the rite place before I go from tacked to permanent, and to my surprise the aftermarket fenders lined up pretty good with some jiggling ill take a few pics tomorrow. I still need to get the rad suport painted and repaint the insides of the fenders one is to dark and the other one has a run with the color in it doahhhh :doah:

I like that paint choice too :D

I've been looking back through your posts and saw where you had a new tail pan... I've got to put a new one in mine too... along with new back floor sections... How long did that take you? Any suggestions?

the tailpan was very easy just simply drill out or break the spot welds and bolts. the 2 body bolts and the other 1/2 inch bolts on each corner remove and replace with the new piece your gonna have to support the bed floor with a 2x4 from underneath just make sure before you weld the new piece in you bolt the tailgate back on so your sure that everything lines up how you want it to.
o and you mite have to drill some new holes in the new tailpan cuz my bolt holes were off like 10 miles

Got a nice new chrome fuel filter. Its one of those big bastards that mount on the frame and has 3/8 threaded in and out. My buddy bought it for his monte but ended up going with a different filter. Now I have to get the rest of the fuel system and the stainless braided line and and the a/n fittings its gonna look perty and it will work nice with my holly fuel pump :pimp:

Was at a small pick and pull rite here on long island well kind of the guy told me he was gonna pull it and to come back in a few hours and I said ill get it myself I couldn't wait. What I got was a 40/20/40 split bench from a 1999 dodge ram with the seat/console in it. 100 bucks for the whole thing. will get pics up as soon as i charge my camera

I know I haven't gotten any pics up in a while but the work must go on and I lost the camera charger:doah: Big progress :thumb: The drivers side rocker got welded on today and its never coming off this is a good thing now im in the process of putting on the inner rocker witch is easy I just ran out of welding wire. I also an making some heavy plates out of 3/16th steel and welding nuts to them so I can weld them underneath the floor and bolt the new dodge ram seats down. cant wait till I find that dam charger. Im also getting ready to do the body work on the drivers door jamb wear the welded rocker seam is so I can prime the jamb and start all over on the other side. Im working away at this thing and it finialy looks like its getting some were :woot:

I have been pondering away for a few hours looking at my heap of a truck trying to come up with the next plan of action. What I came up with is peel and seal. Its a cheapy deluxe version of dynamat. I also need to get some seam sealer so I can seal the welded joints on the floor pan so I can paint the floor and apply the peel and seal down on the whole floor then start all over again on the passengers side. I will definitely have pics up tomorrow of the seats and rocker progress.

I know I havent gotten pics up lately so here goes

Got the new 1999 dodge ram seats witch I have to run a hot lead to both seat belts so they can work rite. Then the rocker went on got welded on and theres no going back. After the rocker was in place I lined up the door and got the body line perfect I also had to adjust the striker in order to get everything to line up good. Then before I took the door off I drilled aliment holes through the door hinges and through the body so I can line up the door in exactly in the same spot with out scratching the painted door jamb.

Lined up the nose as well when I lined up the door just to make sure everything was in check. I think the painted engine bay Is gonna look sick and this shot isn't even with the painted wheel wells in place yet. I also still have to strip and paint the rad support as well.
After everything was lined up I let the grinding :grind: begin on the rockers !!!

After everything was all ground down I took out the bondo and did the first of the very long and intensive body work that the truck will get in the near future. It came out good now I just have to prep the rest of the drivers door jamb for primer. :D

Been working hard on the truck lately really wanna get it together. I ran out of welding gas as soon as I got more wire so I have been at a stand still kinda with the rest of the drivers side floor because I still have a few more things to weld up And I also have to make the seat mounting plates witch require some welding as well.
so for the time being I started lining up the passengers side quarter. Its aftermarket so the bolt holes line up like :poo: so im going to have to drill holes and relocate the mounting bolts just like every other crappy aftermarket part. I also bolted on the tailgate to help me line up the quarters will get more pics soon its looking more and more like a truck every day. I still have to do the body work on the tailgate and I have something up my sleeve to replace the original aluminum band on it.

Got me a brane new drivers door today not used BRAND SPANKING NEW found it on Craigslist and for 100 bucks it saved me the headache of skinning the old one. plus it will accept the original 76 door panels only drawback is no power windows but I just wanna get this truck together and power windows is something else to prolong my process. I mite chose to do the same with the tailgate for the time being keep it manual

lining up panel gaps suck its so tedious
reaming hinges and holes all over the truck but it,s gotta look good from the outside :angry1:
