76 k5 build thread -- gaps suck

i have a factory gm flat hood that i don't think im going to use. its white right now iirc. shipping might be a p.i.t.a. but if you want it we can work something out

Ok back to the build. I finally got a propane space heater and now I am able to work with out freezing my balls off. Its been around the thirties outside but I had it up to 60 inside the tent with the heater on. I also got a different front floor pan for the drivers side that seems to fit alot better then the lmc pan. I got it on eBay from one of those car parts discount places. I also fixed the stress crack in the drivers floor that most of us have under the drivers seat I read on here that the drivers seat mount break on alot of our trucks. I will get pics up soon.

yep i read your thread on the red blazer nice work I cant wait to see how the jimmy comes out. I wish I had a first gen.

Both sides of my floor pan under the seats are cracked and bending! My passenger seat will flex pretty low....I need someone to weld it up for me

I actually cut out about an inch around the crack and put a new piece of metal in it. I figured it would be stronger that way plus it was pretty thin in that area. It is also rite over the cab support frame rail so you need to break the old spot welds and drill out the new patch piece and weld it down to the frame. I will take some pics of that little repair tomorrow.

*slight hijack here...sorry*
If you're still in Killeen, I'm back in Austin at UT for the next semester starting next week. I can weld and would gladly fix that up for ya, but I don't have my own welder...I could always try and find someone who'd let us borrow theirs...

so that's why it works so well....:haha::haha:

Im waiting for my new debit card to come in the mail so I can have some cash flow. I need to buy different bolts to use for the cab support mounts. The ones that came with the body mounting kit I got from lmc are to long and the threads bottom out before it gets tight up. I need to get new bolts so I can mount the cab support before I weld the floor pan in.

I was away skiing this weekend so I got nothing done on the truck this weekend but I want to do as much as humanly possible to get this thing done. Hopefully it will be warm enough to do some spraying this week.

well I got up off my lazy ass and went to the body supply house and got some more blue paint. This time im serious about getting color on the fire wall. I know you have heard me say this before but this time I have the paint, heat, and time so it is gonna get done along with some more spare parts. I mite even prime the door jambs who knows you just have to stay tuned.

Hey yall way back on page 6 I had a post that said that I ditched the blazer to do a cab corner for a custom shop that wanted to see my work. Well, I finally got in there 2 years later lol. It's a great job I get to go in to work everyday and work on old cars. I have been tearing down a 1953 gmc long bed pickup. Hopefully soon I can bring the k5 in there it gets me motivated to get back to work on the truck and not stop.

New progress I pulled the tail pan out so I can replace it and I also got a donor truck it's an 84 k5 that i found here on ck5. its got the 14bolt rear in it
Is that the 3/4 ton or the 1 ton ???

I am cutting the roof off for my truck its got a sun roof and some parts for sale
Fenders and hood any one.

O yea im also pulling the 8 lug axles DURRR

finally painted the firewall

sorry I never got pics up yet but I have some well needed progress that ive been holding out on you guys for way to long. I finally painted the fire wall it looks mint i will have pics up of everything tomorrow for sure.
Im also going to pick up a hood tomorrow. cant wait to get these pics up here

Havent posted in a while. Been super busy i got a 88 monte SS with t tops and have been working that for a bit pulling the motor out of it.

But I did get the hood I was soposed to get. It's an original gm hood from the 70,s with not one spot of rust on it. I paid 50 bucks for it. I should be stripping it and painting it soon and i still need to post up pics of the firewall as well. Hopefully I will get it all done as soon as possible.
