'78 K10 Build

As for the body sitting lower on one side, almost all of these old trucks do that. Mine leans to one side if you look real close. Sometimes replacing the body mounts and spring eye and shackle bushings will help level them out, but usually these old frames are not as straight as they once were. Check your air pressure in your tires too.

Your truck looks real nice. Those tires and wheels make a big difference.

You want to see some trucks that leaned over to one side? Remember the original S10s? They were notorious for doing that because ther springs were so soft in the rear. You could see one pull up at the gas station sitting level, but when the driver filled up his tank and pulled back out, the truck would be listing to the side that the tank was on. :haha:

14 bolt cover took some damage this weekend.

I must've had it flexed out pretty good. Definitley time to do some trimming, but im not sure where to start.... Going to have to do something about that big ass gap too..

Yeah I saw that. I need to figure out how to get it back where its supposed to be and do some trimming. Do most people just just a little cut-off wheel or what? I also don't want to go crazy on the cutting, just enough to clear.

I used a sawzall, but I also don't give a ---- about what things look like.

I used a sawzall on the back part of my fenders but it wasn't as accurate as I liked. So when I cut the fangs off the front part I used a pneumatic cut off wheel. That worked much better but I've since acquired a pneumatic body saw. That's the ticket man. I got mine at Harbor Frieght for like $5.00. You need a compressor that can flow a lot of CFM though. If you do that, you can make the cuts real easy without vibrating yourself to death like you would with the sawzall.

Just put some blue tape in the middle of where you want to cut so the paint won't chip. Also when I was through cutting, I sprayed a little primer on an acid brush and brushed it on the raw metal so it wouldn't rust.

On the front fangs, I would just cut them square along the bottom so the cut is parallel to the ground, and have the cut at the same level as the bottom of the radiator support. That is how I did my Suburban. On the back just cut off the "mud flap" of the fender.

That's how I ended up doing my front fenders after I put the tube bumper on. It looked kind of silly with the fangs hanging down below the bumper. Plus it would be stupid if they got smashed, so I just cut them even with the valance. :hack:

This looks badass from the front (minus the tacky Monster Energy sticker...), but it looks funny on the sides with the up and down side marker light/turn signal.

If you were feeling like doing a little body work, you could cut the turn signal out, and rotate it so it was front to back like the 1981-1987 models, and have the cut a couple inches under it.

That would be badass.

This is more than likely what will happen.

x2, always thought these looked good chopped like this but funny from the side, especially if you dont have big tires

Looks good man. I guess I need to start reading this forum more.

Probably should, and go make another Build thread on here so I have more time to kill at work. :D Im sure some of these guys would like to see it as well.

Yes i enjoy killing time at work. In fact im doin it now... :thumb:

I realy like you build and truck. It reminds me of my 76. I don't know if you got your tire carrier figured out or not, but I used an old 8 lug axle shaft, 3/8 inch plate and some 1" angle. I wanted my tire to be at an angle like a throphy truck, so I cut the axle shaft to the height I wanted with about 70* angle cut, welded it to the 3/8 plate, added 4 braces made out of the 1" angle iron. Then bolted the plate down to 2 bed crossmembers. I bolted the tire down with 8 lug nuts on the correct studs for my truck. That way you always have extra lug nuts and wheel studs if you need them.

^^^ that sounds like a pretty good idea. Except hauling anything would be a pain

Thanks man. I haven't really done anything with my tire carrier yet cause I haven't had time. What I wanted to do is build something like what you're talking about that is detachable so I can still use the rear as a "truck". What you have in mind would be awesome, but like Adam^^ said, I would be a PITA to haul anything. To just make it removable would be perfect.

Here is what i'm doing for now haha.
