78 sub build (sub is gone)

Nope i got 3 differnt ones here a 76 dana 44 a 78 10 bolt and an 89 10 bolt. The tierod distance is all the same from center line of axle but i wil measure what i got, the only differance i have seen is nut on top or bottom. There for the taper is from the top down or bottom up.

As far as everything I have seen - all agrees with Mnstrburbon. As long as you stay GM, the Tie Rod centerline to ball joint pivot should be the same. I have been running one of those cast knuckles for years now, and they work awesome! Waaay better than a high steer arm with a block and long studs. I've seen two of those setups break on the trail now, and it's NOT a fun fix! The full cast knuckle is much more reliable.

Couple of up dates was always having problems with the clutch linkage when flexed, and i recently bent the frame a Little. So it was time to go hydro set up which opened a whole can of worms.
The out put on the transmission was worn and the coupler was shot i don't know how it even held up or was working. So i swapped out for the back up transmission and ordered a new coupler. I also decided while it was out to do a twin stick. I also re placed all the seals and gaskets on the transmission and t case and painted them up all nice. I should finally be installing everything tomorrow i hope.

I decided to leave the factory paint and just clear coated over it with high temp engine clear. I also painted the rails and under coated from the from rails out.

Thanks GUYS figured it was some thing different to do then just paint it all black. Everyone that has seen it seems to be pretty blown away with it and then they look at me and say why? What are you doing restoring it and, what where you on. It was down for about 2 months waiting on parts and money so why not take the time and make it all nice. It sure made assembly easy and almost fun. Well as much fun as installing a lb or more pound drive train can be.

I also finished under coating the out side parts from the frame rails out i just need to get the pics.

Little up date i am currently working on the heater ac and battery box.

I removed all the factory ac stuff and will be patching the firewall. I got a non ac dash bezel no vents by gauges, and a non ac trim panel for over the glove box. I am going to run a summit heater and run defrost and one lower floor vent only. I will putting 2 batteries on the fire wall where the ac stuff once lived. I have had the boxes for some time a year maybe.

i'd like to do this mod but will that summit heater put out enough heat to warm up a burb in the dead of winter? we had a decent cold snap here last winter and the stock heater in my burb sucked. was running a 195 stat too.

I found the receipt and then misplaced it they where off ebay 26.00 a piece for the battery box's

I built this and got it 90 percent installed i need to get some more hardware for the box's and some wiring to to rewire the battery's. I made patch panels for all the holes in the fire wall and welded them all in..Thanks buefchris.

Made some rock sliders, 2x5 square tube .188 wall.
I stiil need to fill in the sheet metal and add more bracing but it's a good start. Im also going to add round tube off of them for a step/slider as well i have a idea we shall see if it works.
