78 sub build (sub is gone)

I have been going back and forth for a month now on the 60 rebuild, then install, heater, heater vents, tilt column, and battery rewire. Here is the summit MOHAVE heater installed and the defroster vent modified to accept the vent tubing from the new heater. I also got some vents from a 72 Chevy truck from classic industries i might use and the vent kit from Mohave. Still trying to decide where i want the vents to go and how many. I got the heater wired to the factory rear ac switch with low-med-high the switch that comes in the kit is a little cheap. I also made a plate to cover the whole left behind by the removal of the factory controls.

Nice setup how did u route the coolant lines through the firewall I'm doing somthing similar to yours...

yep, i'm fallowing the heater install as well. is this heater supposed to be as strong or better than the stock set up? i"m thinking of running one of these up front lik you are and a smaller on in the rear....

Still not finished so many loose ends to tie up.

I finally finished the rewire of the whole front harness, WOW i think i spent at least 20 hrs or more redoing the factory head light wiring, brackets for the hid's, fan relays, alternator and the list goes on.

I have not ran coolant lines yet, but I am thinking of a plastic elbow fitting in the help aisle for cheap and easy, or go the stainless braided hose rout with an fittings. There needs to be a 90* bend on the inside of the firewall to line up with the heater.

I'm also planning on adding a second summit heater to the rear when i go buckets, on the back of the center console same heater as the front just no vents a grated front instead.

sweet build! I've been going through every suburban post I can find looking for similar builds to what I have planned. this one is pretty sick. good job keeping everything clean. Its really hard to not rush stuff when they sit idle for awhile. You just want to get it done so you can go play.

Since you ordered a high steer arm from ballistic. How come you didn't get the dual shear? I'm asking since that is what I had put on my 60 to go under the truggy, but will be going under my 88.

Thanks for the comp's I try and only keep it down for a weekend or 2 max but this last make over and rewire killed that, its been about a month. I am planning on going to Terra Del Sol on march 5, so i have a short window to get it finished.

With mud, water, and such i like the grease of a tie rod end and the ease of getting a replacement should one fail in the middle of know where. That really was the only reason for not going hiems. I would only run there arms as they are the only ones i have seen that are double sheer. Running steering gin single sheer is a huge no no but i see people doing it a lot.

Small up date:

Ordered PSC ram, PSC can for pump, jaz p/s resevoir, p/s cooler.

Installed the P.A. speaker, heater duct to the defroster, extreme high lift, springs on the brake lines, cotter-pins on the tie rod, sanded the frame rails ready for paint, painted the a bomb where i removed the pintle hook, and cleaned up the inside.

Got the reservoir and cooler today so ill get them mounted up tomorrow. The psc ram and stuff should be here by Fri.

Here are some flex shots from today, got my measurements and ordered the d shaft. Upgraded the front yoke to 1350 and a 7" slip instead of the factory 4", it is only moving 2 3/4 inches so i should be covered.

I hear you on car list's... i have a 465 203 205 doubler sitting in the garage also that would be nice to install, I need the doubler adapter and shifters. I have been thinking about selling it and going with an atlas instead.

No ram today.
So i went ahead and did a bunch of odds and ends.
Got the reservoir, and cooler mounted, gauges put back in dash, and greased the front end, installed the lock outs, shocks, painted the frame rails, springs on the frame rails for the brake lines, diff cover and oil,so on and so on.

Hey Matt, how come you don't want any airflow throught your P/S cooler?:dunno:
Just seems kinda silly.

The plastic caps are just on there for mounting it i did not want to mount it to the radiator so this was the next best spot. It should get plenty of air flow its actually more of a heat sink at idle and so forth.

why not mount some L bracket to the same location on you core support. that would rotate the cooler 90 degrees.

Thanks you its differnet and memorable i guess.

I did some carnage this last weekend so im trying to get things figured out. I also got my ram so ill be finishing the install of all that soon.
