79 K20 would have...?

Just to add to the fire I looked at a very original '80 K5 about 8 years ago that had a 12 bolt in the rear and a 10 bolt in the front.

GM was just using up old parts back then. There was no hard and fast change over at a specific date.

Yes AJ, my 80 did have the 12bolt rear also....I forget sometimes....

While I definitely will agree that GM did some funky stuff back in the '70s through early-80's, and thus it's hard to argue that a combination never truly existed from the factory.

However from my experience over the years when it comes to discussions over what powertrain or options an old Chevy truck came with from the factory you almost never hear from somebody stating they bought a truck brand new and know for sure that particuliar combination hadn't been swapped in. Seems like it's always somebody claiming the truck is original even though it was 20 years old and been through 3 owners before they ever saw it.

remember the trucks we are talking about go a partial vin stamped on the block. If it truly is stock it will have a matching vin.

My '81 Jimmy came with a 305, SM 465/208, 12 bolt rear and 10 bolt front...not sure when the 12 bolt was allegedly phased out but it had to be around that time.

My 1975 K20 camper special was a 350 (4 bolt)/TH350/NP203/Dana 44/14FF/4.10's.

Well, just for some truck resurrection porn, here's the beastie in question. It's a bit rough but as I told my buddy, you can't get much better for $200.

There is $200 in iron. It sweet and even comes with a spare Qjet

Well, actually it doesn't. My coworker's bro in law wants to keep it even though he doesn't have anything to put it on. Lord knows why, maybe because he spent a bunch of money on it having it rebuilt a few years ago...yet he never put it on afterward.

Doesn't come with the plow either. We're not that concerned though, between the several of us we either have all the parts or know who does to make this thing a great plow truck or even restore it.

Here in nebraska we are starting a k series comune of sorts. For the most part we all have 2+ k series trucks so if someone needs a part we mor or less give it too them thinking its better than rotting away. Then later it always seems we need a part from them so it works out. I am down too only 3.5 trucks now, kinda getting nervous I may need a spare part and have to go to the parts store.

My '75 K20 is getting really low on parts John, we just robbed the rear springs for my brother's 1977 Chalet.

Well, we drug it out last night.

Hooked a battery up and it turned right over. Looks like someone drained the radiator while doing a heater core and gave up half way through that. They did put a steel plate over the intake so nothing got in there.

He paid $300 since the guy offered the plow as well. It's rough...real rough...but it's got $300 in axles alone. Even if he puts a couple hundred into it he only needs it to run for two winters and he's got his money back.

Can anyone identify the transfer case? I'm not too familiar with them. The shifter and everything is missing from the floorboard inside the truck.

It's actually a '77 and originally had a 454 in it. Sadly it's just a SBC now. Definitely a TH350.

Eh...my camera and distance make it look better than it was. Rockers and cab corners are shot, fenders are good and rusty...the floors are okay but not great...hood is bad. The bed is "meh".

Oh, I forgot the bottom of the doors are so rusted that when they rubbed the p-side door on something the skin pulled right away from the interior portion. Whoops.

Talked to him a few hours ago. His FIL is already rolling his eyes at him.
