The PO put an 8" Superlift kit on the K5 before selling. I'm ditching the 8" lift for a 6" lift courtesy of Alcans and a shackle flip. The Superlift kit came with a 4" drop drag link and a 4" raised steering arm, that are on the truck right now. The pitman arm appears to be stock. What's going to be the easiest way to correct my steering with what I have, or with as little funds as possible? Can the drag link be rotated, so it flattens out to about 2" of drop instead of 4? Suggestions?

Before anyone mentions crossover, I have plans for it in the future, but it's not in the budget at this point.

Thanks!

Get rid of the drop drag link and install a new factory type one along with a drop pitman arm which nets 1.5" drop. This arm with the existing raised steering arm will be 5.5" total which is perfect for your 6" lift.

I'll need the drop pitman anyway when I switch to crossover, right?

Different pitman arm. For crossover you'll need a 2wd steering box or swap a 2wd sector shaft into your box.

What johnnychimpo said...

I thought you were using the stock type front-to-back steering.

I do have the stock 4wd steering box right now. I did a little searching around and understand the differences. So...I could use a 2wd drive box, with my current set up, provided I clock the pitman arm around to the stock 4wd position, right?

Nope, the stock/4wd arm wont slide over the 2wd sector shaft, the keyways are different.

Right...what I typed and what I meant were apparently two different things....I meant put in a 2wd box, with a 2wd pitman clocked over to the 4wd position.

youve got a dana 44 front right? you could get your pass knuckle machined for crossover assuming youve got the flattops. why not do it while youre building it out of the truck. i wish i did. i wouldnt mess with the stock style steering, its really not that great. i dont get to do much offroading, probably as much as you will but i have a handful of time i wish i had crossover.

Yeah, it's got flat tops, but it's still on the truck. I'm only dropping it long enough to change out the springs and shackles. For now, I'm only changing out the outers to 3/4 ton. Crossover will come later in the fall. I just don't have the budget right now for anything more right now....baby due in April. I gotta get it back on the road.

i might have a drag link but the nut is chewed up from some schmuck who had it before me. if i can get it off you can have it if you want. its all covered in oil and ****. its been preserved! :D

I ran mine with 6'' lift and just a 4'' steering arm correction (stock drag link). I then added a 2'' drag link and noticed a nice increase in steering radius and less bumpsteer. Worth a shot, i think i paid $75 for the 2'' drag link new.
