83 ground up blazer build

On the rear springs the back shackle hanger moved back 8" and mounted up good. I am going to ad an additional brace on the back hangers at the same time as the tank mounts.

The front hangers on the rear springs went forward 4". This should locate the axle 2" back from stock. Had to modify the hangers a little and ad some beef due to the location.

Installing the rear springs was a beast.:doah::haha: They had to be compressed so they would "stretch" out to the correct length.

Got the doubler stuff today. Put the motor and tranny in for mock up. I figured it would be easier to do the crossmembers without the body on yet.

it's ALL about the 5 gallons buckets! :wink1:

gotta love getting parts... I should have a bunch coming in next week myself... NWF , Waytek, etc...

square tube for the x-member?

Crawdaddy, any pics of the truck in your avatar anywhere? I'd like to see the cage.

Haven't decided on the crossmember yet. I am working through a couple different ideas.:thinking:possibly tubing I am itching to use the new bender.

I just ordered the doubler last week. I liked NWF's stuff, but after reading about your shipping problems decided to pass.;)

Here is one most of the pics are from the trail so its hard to see everything, but I can take some more and post up if there is something you would like to see.
I have a lot of ideas for the new cage, and body. The old one was not tied to the frame the new one WILL be. I am working on the design in bend tech. Looks to be like a lot of work.:doah::haha:

I'm thinking of square for mine, seems like it'll be way easier.. but i'll see once i mock up the driveline again... I may go 1.5 round... anxious to bend up my back bumper, but I am a little tired of notching tube... :o

what bender did you get?

Went with the JD2 model 32. It was a toss up between it and the 105. But the 32 can bend 2 1/2 DOM. You might need a 10 foot cheater bar though.:haha:

Thanks!

Can you also do a side shot like your avatar so I can see the rest? That looks like a really nice truck.

What makes you definitely want to tie the cage to the frame next time? Based on opinion/desire or something specific you want to fix over your previous truck?

You've got a good looking build. I can slowly see the light at the end of a bare frame up build myself and wish I could have done it inside like yours, things turn out so much better. Truth be told I wish I had never done it, I should have started with a running truck and done mods along the way. :doah:

Here is a couple. Still trail pics but I will go take some more pics tomorrow. I have the truck at a buddy's house due to lack of space at my house.:doah:

As far as the cage goes I guess I don't have a good reason. My current blazer is not tied to the frame and it seemed to me that I got a lot of movement between the body and frame. Which probably could be fixed by connecting the cage to the frame with bushings.

I have a cage / mini exo cage design that I want to tie everything together.
The only thing strange about that is I plan on driving it on the street a lot.

That's a damn secksy truck, thanks for the info and pics! Sorry for the hijack.

A street driven, exo'd truck will be sweet and definitely get you some looks. :rotfl:

Got the 203 rebuilt and the doubler adapter installed. It was a pretty straight forward install so I didn't do a big right up on it cause I have seen several in here.

And I know, I know its not an atlas,:p: but in my case the I saved about $1000 over the atlas, and I think the triple stick shifters are cool..:saweet:

Here is the donor 203

Put it in for mock up, for the crossmember. Paul you were right on about using the square tubing, the round looks like a pain in the arse.

With the tranny pan level the 205 sits about 2 5/8" below the frame at the lowest point.

Have made some progress on the crossmember. It has taken a little longer to make than I thought. I ended up bringing the back of the 205 up about 3/4 inch so now the motor is sitting 3* back and the tranny pan is 1* forward.

I did that because I didn't want anything below the crossmember or 2" below the frame. I still have some finishing to do but this is the basic idea.

The mother of all crossmembers thread that is on here is where I got most of the design from, I just changed some small things for my truck.

BTW.. I am a noob to this site and I just wanted to say thanks to all the guys out there that have taken the time to take pics and do right ups on all this stuff.:bow: There is so much info on this site that it is overwhelming at times.:eek1: I wish that I would have know about this site a couple years ago. Best 25 dollars that I have spent on my truck.:D

Hey thanks a lot.:bow::bow:

The angle iron on the sides is 2"x2" x .250"
The square tube in the back is 2"x2" x .250"
The square tube for the rest is 1.5" x 1.5" x .250"

Brought the body home today. Thought I would throw up a couple of pics. It has a couple small rust spots but not to bad.
