So would a 83 K5 Blazer with 6.2 diesel have a 700R4 transmission? Im looking at one for sale but its a couple hours drive away from me and want to make sure it has overdrive before I want to look at it. I gotta cruise on the freeway.

Thanks

Are you sure? I looked at a 82 K5 with a 6.2 and it had a 700r4. I think only the cucv's got the th400

I thought the K5's had 700R4's 1982 n up, and cuccv blazers and trucks were th400's. :dunno: Im not sure about diesels, as this would be my first.

you are correct, most civi diesels had the 700r4

Pretty much any 1/2 ton truck/suburban/K5 got the 700R-4 when equipped with the 6.2 diesel. The exception was the M1009 K5 Blazer which got the TH400 and 3.08's. I'd be 995 sure the truck you're wanting to look at would have the 700R-4...

Cool, thats what I wanna hear. Thanks guys. Would stock gearing be like the gas K5's with the 700R4's? I had one and it was 3.73. I plan to swap in my 3/4 ton axles with 4.10's, locker and some 35's. Then I'll think about adding a turbo.

My '83 C-1500 pick-up has 3.42's with the 6.2 700R-4 combo. With 235-75R15's it's perfect gearing for economy and decent enough grunt around town. I've heard a lot of the 6.2 rigs got 3.08's and the overdrive though...which is stupid IMO. Even my pick-up would likely do the same mileage with 3.73's and pull a bit harder.
