Might as well start off with Hello, since this is my first post. I have been spending alot of time looking thru the mounds of info around here.
As for the Blazer, My ex-father in law bought it for my son as his first car. He drove it from Maryland (where he and my ex now live) to Ohio. I had not seen it till he pulled in the driveway with it, but i could tell my son was not overly impressed. He's never been into cars much, let alone 4x4's. He'll be 18 in July, and still doesn't even have his permit, and I've asked him more then once if he wanted to get them. So anyways, I made him a deal, i find him a reliable car that he can afford to drive to school and work ( how his grandpa expected him to pay for gas in the Blazer, i have no idea lol), and i would take the blazer.
Its a 1984 k5, from what i can tell its completely stock except for the rims and 33" tires. From the looks of the engine i'd bet its the original 305. It idle's fine but has no guts at all. He had a tranny put in before he brought it out, they got it from a junk yard so that may have to be addressed before long also.
Plans are to get it road worthy first of all. Planning on keeping it mostly stock looking, maybe a 4" lift and 35's since everything in the frontend needs refreshed. Find a decent 350 either rebuilt or rebuild-able. Take care of all the safety items first. I know its going to need alot of suspension work just to get it back to driving decent. Long term i would like to do some mild trail running, nothing outrageous, It has the normal rust issues, rockers, front floors, rear half looks solid. The tailgate is clean but the tailpan looks a little weak. Its not a daily driver so I'm not in a rush. And I will not be able to get a whole lot done for about the next 2 years, then my son and daughter that live with me will graduate and I'll be free lol.
