'85 K10 Project "Yellow Truck"

I guess with the east coast meet coming up in June I need to get my truck in order. So I figured it was time to start a build thread.
Bought the truck back in '98 when I moved to Kentucky, have owned a few 2wd but no 4wd people wanted crazy money for them in Michigan. Truck was my daily driver for a few years. Did some small offroad stuff nothing really crazy or stupid.

Then on my way to work on day this happened:

Luckliy no one was hurt. Tow truck flipped over my truck and it fired right up. I tried to drive it home but the cops said that was not going to happen. :dunno:
Aftermath:

So it got torn apart and replaced to front end and the cab. The bed was still good.
While it was apart I decided to find out why the motor smoked so bad. It turned out a motor I got off a buddy he claimed it was great. Nope it seems to that someone bored out the cylinders and put the stock pistons back in it. :screwy: I took it to the machine shop to have them check the block over and they were surprised the motor even ran. Another lesson in don't believe what someone says.
If I would have only know back then what I know now I would have replaced the cab I would just have chopped off the top made some kind of makeshift windshield and ran the thing.
This was also my first time at painting cars so I really didn't care on body work but it did turn out fairly good.

So with it back on the road I just drove it. My uncle and cousin got XJ's and we started getting off the beaten paths. Until then I just offroaded with ATV's. So took it out a few times in stock condition and surprised a few people on what these can do in stick form with some all terrain tires.

During that time I found me some 35x15" wide Supper Swampers for a killer deal. Had a 6" suspension lift laying around I had bought a few years ago.

Since then the truck has sat for the last few years due to having a new baby. Now its time to get it back on the road. I have finally bought some parts. Got me a new drag link since the old one had bad rod ends, got me a steering box rebuild kit to help with the leaking fluid. Bought me a luchbox locker for my D60 rear I have had laying around for a number of years. Bought the bearings to swap out the front end for 8 lug. With that then I can finally install these. Had these laying around for about 10years or so. (God its been that long?)

Thats where I'm at today.

Just a random photo I love.

Tires on it now are the 35x15" wide Supper Swamper SX's Radial. That one photo was from when I ran it in stock form.

Everyone asks since its completely flat in that area.
This happened on a main country road so i was probably going about 60 or so. There was a box truck in front of me that slammed on its brakes but had no brake lights so by the time I realized what was happening I jumped on my brakes while veering to the right and the rear locked up. Which put me in a slide and there was a side road with about a 6" lip of blacktop I caught it with my right front tire and it sent it over on its top. Funny part is that the whole area is flat and I catch the one part that sends me over. So I kid with everyone that I can flip a truck over on flat ground. LOL
But the lucky part was I was about 5 feet or so from hitting the gas meter that was in the cemeteries front lawn. And yea thats where I landed was on the front lawn of a cemetery. My step grandfather is buried there and I always kid that I wanted to see him again but not in that way.

Where at in KY are you?
Southern Kentucky. right in the middle of Lexington and Knoxville off of I-75

What's the plan Man??
The plan:
Regear the axles 3.42 and 35" tires don't mix well. Gonna regear to 5.13 maybe a little over but looking to future when bigger tires are bought
New rear springs right now has blocks. Cheap. Works ok but not the best.
Need to fix trans shifting issue along with lack of power but I think they are related to the poor gearing.
Front winch. Probably just gonna get one of those 12,000 pound units from HF. Also get a front bumper for the winch been looking at the a-bomb bumper from diy4x.
Rear bumper I have TNA working on something.
I already moved the fuel tank to inside the bed. But got to make a mount for the spare tire.
Got to get my CB working correctly.
Get rock sliders. Probably just gonna use 2x4 square tubing.

That's about it for this year. Mainly just need to get it back on the road a trail capable, before I really start changing things out. Well it was before but not very good and kind of scary sometimes. Brakes need addressing along with the steering but have parts for the steering. Will go crossover but not until next winter. Along with that a roll cage will be install then. But it's like everything else once you get out there and start using it you find things that you either need to or want to upgrade. That vicious cycle.
