SPLATT submitted a new Build:

85 K5 Slow Brew

This is my 85 Blazer that I'm going to be slowly transforming into an overland/medium duty wheeler type rig. I'm not new to the Blazer platform as I used to own a rough 77 that was the family camping and off road rig that was a big part of my kids life when the were growing up(my son came home from the hospital in it) I modified it with the parts available at the time which by today's standard leaves a lot to desire. As my vehicle needs changed it was put out to pasture and eventually sold minus it's engine(that's getting some new parts for my other project). Fast forward to a couple years ago my wife and I were talking about vehicles we had in the past and she expresses interest in getting another Blazer based on her memories we had with the kids in the old 77. So between my other project, a 71 Monte Carlo, and starting a new job 3 years ago it took a bit to get another one. This build is going to take some time as my other project takes priority as it's further along and closer to being finished.
Currently the 85 specs out as follows:
Engine.....350 Chevy of unknown specs
Trans.....TH350
Transfer case..... NP203
Front axle.....3/4 ton 10 bolt unknown ratio
Rear axle.....3/4 ton 14 bolt FF unknown ratio
Suspension.....4" all spring lift unknown mfg
Shocks.....Rancho RS5000
Steering..... lift corrected stock
Brakes.....stock disc/drum
Tires.....315/75/16 Maxxis Buckshots
Wheels.....16x8 Ultra Daytona
Interior.....stock

Future plans call for
Engine.....6.0 LQ4/LQ9
Trans.....NV4500 or TR4050, 4L80e if I stay with an automatic
Transfer case..... Not sure yet but the 203 will be going
Front axle.....Dana 60 with 4.88 and ARB
Rear axle.....14 bolt with 4.88 and Detroit Locker
Suspension.....6" all spring lift with ORD parts
Shocks.....Bilsteins
Steering.....crossover possibly with hydraulic assist
Brakes.....upgrade fronts and rear disc conversion and hydroboost
Tires..... 37/12.50/17
Wheels.....17x10(not sure what yet)
Interior.....Mastercraft seats, Cage, Fix and restore front to rear
Armor..... tube bumpers front and rear with rock sliders
Winch..... Warn 12000

This is just what I can think of. I'm going to start keeping a notebook in the console to write down. I will be doing body work and plan on a 30' paint job in my favorite off road racing livery design

This is not going to be a fast moving build and the early part of the build is just going to be repairing things that aren't working, broken, missing or poorly done. My early goal is to get the truck in shape to be daily driver level first and foremost. Once it's at that stage then it's time to start modifying.

Ok got some updates. Not having a garage really slows things down but over the last few months I have made some forward progress. I've picked up some new wheels and tires. I went with 315/70/17 BFG KM3 Mud Terrains with some 17"x9.5" Raceline wheels. I swapped out the stock steering shaft with a Jeep shaft, still needs some work in the steering to tighten things up, I've got it narrowed down to the steering box. I'm going to be replacing that when I go to crossover steering anyway. When I bought the truck the previous owner told me the overflow tank had a split in it so I replaced it only to find out there was a chunk of steel flat bar left in the vicinity of the radiator at some point that during the trip to get tires it kicked the flat bar into the radiator damaging it enough to leak so in went a new radiator. The last thing I got done was a new set of shocks and found that they were stock length, which explains the shitty ride. Sorry pictures aren't in order.169056965_10158473529984006_2708570388656119693_n.jpg169061637_10158473530344006_4452018513706572284_n.jpg169068615_10158473544749006_3873575365975551269_n.jpg169105927_10158473530984006_3523738764965071121_n.jpg169134223_10158473529744006_8388476227739497683_n.jpg169231255_10158473546164006_4707441819326540115_n.jpg169233139_10158473531894006_1042739659917826716_n.jpg169256871_10158473544509006_313227672938682118_n.jpg169263501_10158473531304006_7239686570750078149_n.jpg

Got new seals in both doors and rebuilt both vent window assemblies, what a pain in the ass, a new regulator and motor for the drivers side as well as fix the wiring on that side. I'll be adding the LMC window relay kit and replacing the seal on the tailgate window next as well as rear hub bearings and seal soon. I might just have it drive-able by winter.20210801_183723.jpg20210801_183733.jpg

Started my crossover conversion, I'll be running up to Red Head tomorrow to grab a steering box to finish it up. I also found I need a new set of locking hubs, found the passenger hub was missing the part that connects the axle to the hub. I keep finding some really stupid shit as I keep going through it.289387876_10159240193789006_6903940315287951726_n.jpg289385016_10159240194064006_2411344262516659589_n.jpg289305412_10159240194259006_1807998920001414178_n.jpg

Finished for now. I'm going to be adding the ORD brace and engine cradle as well when I have time to weld in the reinforcing plates. I never knew just how flexy these frames are. I had to look it over to make sure the wasn't a crack I hadn't seen, found none.

This project is also on a temporary hold on any major work on it until after My wife and I get moved into a new house. I'll continue with small bits of work so I won't have to tow it to the new place when we find one.

Well crap. Went to go for a drive today after doing a bunch of repair work over the last year only to find out I have electrical issues. Right now I don't have headlights, running lights and my power windows don't work. The power windows I just finished working on and were working well before I buttoned everything up. Back to the drawing board. I hate electrical work.

And now it also needs a heater core along with some small parts for the heater/ac system.

Well the power windows were the result of a broke wire, that's fixed. Passenger side hd relay kit is now installed so now the windows on both doors work. I also replaced the headlight switch and got my lights back. I tidied up the electrical under the hood and removed some of the uneeded and unused wiring as well as got rid of some sketchy stuff. I really hate poorly executed wiring. I didn't get to the heater core and related repairs, that'll be next weekend. I did get an ORD steering box brace kit to go along with the frame plates. I'll get the brace in for now and do the plates after I get moved and set up to weld. I'm hoping that once I get the heater fixed I'll be able to start driving it more often

Doors all buttoned up, heater core replaced and buttoned up, ORD steering brace installed. Now if I could find my rivnut tools so I can fix some wallowed out screw holes.

I did find my rivnut stuff and fixed the threshold trim for both doors. I started heading out to the local cruise night and it started making some new squeaking noises so rather than risk a possible tow home I just took it home and grabbed my Monte Carlo for the cruise. It feels real lazy in the acceleration dept so I ordered a refresh kit for the HEI seeing that I just refreshed the carb and it revs fine with no load on it.

Me and a friend thought about going, but the air was just so horrible it had already given me a headache.
