Can someone help?
I recently changed..:
dist. cap
rotor
coil
plugs
wires
truck ran excellent.
I took a trip to vegas from LA, it was 100 degrees...
on the way back truck started to run terrible.
I noticed that I burnt the driver side plug wires because it was resting on the exhaust manifold.
Changed wires.
checked for vacuum leaks, none
car sounds a little off, runs good until it shifts to second then it bogs and I loose power then it picks up and runs a little rough.
Idle sounds really good.
I am baffled...

I forgot to mention that I smelled a little oil when going up hill and when I push the gas pedal all the way down, the engine would loose all power..

"driver side plug wires " that what I was going to say before I read it.. make sure none of the others are burnt....look close. tie them up real good away from the hot stuff.

Carb or TBI? I think carb.. if so, check the tuning and timing.. could have gotten out of wack

thanks.
Carb is correct. I will check timing and recheck wires.
can the wires be close to the block and still hold up as long as they are away from the exhaust manifold? Its seems like a science when running them under on the drivers side....

I figured it out....
I pulled a rookie move and did not instal the ground lead when installing the new dist. cap..
This caused extreme sparking and broke off the rotor tab and burned the coil wires.
Luckily O' Rielly considered this to be covered under the warranty.
While i was digging around I noticed a fuel leak and loose carb...
Running strong!

Well problem not solved...
Runs great when cold, but when it warms up, it bogs...
I thought maybe I fried the ignition module or condenser and replaced them with no change,
going to re-replace coil, pcv, and plugs in the morning.
I cant figure it out.
I thought maybe it was the EGR, but i hooked a pump up to it and it moved up and down.
Before the Vegas trip it was running like a new motor....
I took it to a shop and they listened and said it sounds like its missing and to go home and re-do the plugs, wires etc ..
Wires are new and not touching the exhaust and routed correctly.
and other ideas?

Okay, problem now solved..

1. changed plugs
2. changed coil
3. replaced vacuum lines
4. replaced O2 sensor
5. replaced fuel filter
6. cleaned EGR valve
7. replaced PCV valve
8. cleaned and lubed exhaust vacuum unit
9. reset timing
10 cleaned engine harness connections

Everything seams to be good now.
today engine runs like new...
I think it was a combo of everything, but probably most of my issues were related to timing...

thanks for the help!
