I have an 87 burb with a newly rebuilt 700 that I bought for parts or to get on the road I really havent decided because of the back fees to DMV. I have come across a really clean 83 K5 with low miles for cheap. The K5 needs a tranny. The owner pulled it to have it rebuilt then the estimate doubled and he never had it done. He has since taken the old trans to the junk yard :doah:. I know the 700 will bolt up to the 83 since they are SBC and basically identical. My concern is what will I have to do to make the newer trans work in the older truck? I am thinking the TC lock up changed over somewhere between 87 and 83. Is there anything else I am missing?

Hopefully this is not a big deal. If not I could be rolling by the end of the month instead of by summer :woot:

You need the proper tv cable bracket and a hydraulic lockup on the tranny, some guys use a switch instead.

There's a vacuum switch usually mounted on the firewall to activate the lock up on the older setups and I believe a brake switch near the pedal to unlock the TC.
