87 TTB K5 - Luxury Prerunner

Just out of curiosity, why the 241? I saw some 208 vs 1356 threads on Pirate and the consensus was that the 1356 was a better unit. Not trying to argue at all, just trying to understand the why. Also, in regards to the 205 suggestion I definitely want to stick with a lightweight unit.

Ok cool. Should be easy to find one on the cheap since I need the more common drivers side drop. Anybody know if this is available with an electronic shift? I'd like to do an electronic unit with a 3 position toggle if there's a way

Yup, its called an NP243. Roughly the same t-case as a 241 but it has a different case for the encoder motor and a few minor internal differences for the shift linkages.

I am not sure what is involved with the control system but I can't see it being overly difficult. Should be able to snag one from an optioned 95-99 without having any body control module involvement.

I am running an NP241 behind a Duramax with a manual transmission. It'll handle all the power you can throw at it with your built small block.

An Atlas would be nice, but they are heavier and much more expensive to buy and repair if needed later on down the road.

Guys, Thanks for all of the advice and suggestions. I'm going to have my brothers shop build me either a NP243 or NP241 - If I can get an SYE for the 243 I will go that route, as I prefer to not have a floor shifter taking up space. If I cant make it work I will do the NP241. I liked the BW1356 idea, but seems a little blasphemous to put in a Chevy - I already crossed the line with TTB :D

I forgot to mention in my previous posts that I ditched my suburban seats and ordered some PRPs. They just delivered a week ago - photo below. I went with the Competition Pros, Black leather with Silver Double stitching, and adjustable headrests. I'm incredibly happy with them and they're super comfortable. I'm going to keep the same style throughout the build - Luxury prerunner type deal.

I also cut the cage out today - I had it built about 2 years ago. Back then I didn't have time to build it myself (which I regret now) so I went to a local fab shop that was recommended by somebody whom I trust. Long story short, it became a total pain in the ass - my truck sat there for a few months with nothing done to it - every time I stopped by, the owners race truck had been improved :/ I had given the guy a $1200 deposit and if it wasn't for that I would of just picked it up and gone elsewhere. The guy finally finished it and when i went to pick it up and I got in the backseat and my head stuck up above the cage - It was flush with the top of tubing in the front and my head was resting against a tube in the drivers seat, The B-pillar was about 6" off the cab, and there were a number of other issues. I ended up going ballistic on the guy, and made him fix it. After he fixed it I still had reservations about the deal. I did some investigating and found he used CREW instead of DOM (At the time I didn't understand why he insisted on painted the cage - now I do), didn't sleeve areas he should of and butt welded them instead. About a year ago I decided I'd cut my losses and build a proper cage myself when the timing was right - I believed, and still do, that I have no recourse with the shop - the owner shut it down for a while and went to work for the DOD, then opened back up recently but doesn't seem they're doing much. Anyhow, as I'm cutting the thing out today I'm seeing areas that were hidden when it was in the cab - photos below. I weld a lot, and I understand that certain areas and out of position welds can be tough , but there are no excuses for this.

Now I'm F*ing pissed. I paid $2500 for this garbage. I'm thinking about taking action now. What do you guys think? Only issue is I've been down this road and it can be very difficult to get your coin back.

Whoa. I agree that is just unacceptable. It may have save you if you rolled. Maybe. Good luck on getting any money out of them though. If it were me I would just chalk it up to my lessons learned board and be glad I didn't have to find out how crappy it was in a rollover or a flop.

X2

I feel the same way as andyblack, you would be lucky to get any money back not to mention the time you would spend persuing this in court. Take that frustration out by building your own the way you want knowing it is done right. We've seen your welds on that radiator, and with the resources you have (your brothers shop) it should be a walk in the park. Sorry about the loss, and the kick to the coin purse!

Awesome direction! I would love to build a desert blazer next! :D

I got screwed much worse on a far more expensive project. Don't bother trying to get money out of them unless you paid with your visa card. They'll back you up on stuff like this but if you paid cash you'll have to fight the legal battles on your own and that'll eat up any judgement you might get in your favour.

In this day of social media and the like, I would post those pictures on the company's Facebook page for all their potential customers to view. If I even had a Facebook acoount I would do that anyway. :haha:

OMG..those are crap welds!! :doah:
Did they even look at you when you picked it up. I would be ashamed to make someone pay for that
