i recently picked up a 87 v10 very solid truck for the price, i dont know much about old vehicles so i have some questions

it has a granny low 4 spd with i think the 208 comes with that?(lots of snow on the ground only had a quick look purchasing for leaks) i have a sweet parts truck lined up 86 k10 with a carbed 350 with an auto in it. again to much snow to check which one.

so i want to throw the auto in it what exactly would i need, i want to run it with the shift on the floor delete the kickdown and shift it like that( get a shift kit upgrade for the trans) sounds easy enough technically the pcm should think its still manual right? am i missing something?

A lot of people will tell you to stick with the manual, and that'd be my choice too. That being said, if you really want an automatic, it should be mostly a matter of swapping parts.

Odds are the auto is a 700R4, but you'll want to make sure because that makes a difference on your setup. You'll need the transmission, pedal assembly, flexplate, wiring for the TCC (or an aftermarket controller) to retain TC lockup, and the TV cable and bracketry to hook up to the throttle body. I am not sure if automatic TBI trucks had a different computer that year, but if so that will have to be addressed, but that is easy. Since both trucks are 4x4, that should mean a minimum of hassle getting everything to bolt up.

Depending on how much control you want over the trans, you may consider a manual valve body. You'll obviously need a compatible floor shifter, one that won't interfere with the transfer case lever. There are other minor things that I'm sure people will chime in on, but overall it shouldn't be terribly difficult.

so no difference in the transfer case?, just swap transmissions(tc and flex plate) and it should all bolt together? how about if its a th400?

Manual T-case will be 32 spline in '86. Auto T-case is 27 spline...so you'd have to swap the T-case with the tranny. 86 and 87 should both be NP208, and the overall length of both combo's should be identical. This means you will most likely be able to re-use the existing driveshafts.
