I have an 88 K5 with TBI 350 that's running rich enough to make the milage suffer severely and has a strong smell. an o2 sensor code origionally came up but i replaced that and no codes now. I also replaced the base gasket for the TBI unit and no change. there are no loose vaccum hoses and everything is connected that i can see. truck runs great and idler perfect. Any suggestions????

Try the temp sensor on the intake manifold, in front of the TBI. Unplug it and see if it makes a difference. Mine went bad on a truck I have, it caused it to run rich. That is the temp sensor for the ECM.

if u unplug the sensor the computer automatically thinks its -40 and will dump alot more fuel that way of diagnostics makes no sense.

do u have access to something that can read the datastream?

I think that's his point, if it's bad then there won't be any change in the way it runs.

its a really backyard way to go about it, and wont necessarily be the temp sensor even if it doesnt change the way its running, but i would be looking at the temp sensor first if my truck was running rich as well.
