I am casually looking around for a super-specific Suburban...
  • 1989-1991 GMC (I want that grille)
  • Factory 3/4 ton (I want those 2500 badges)
  • Barn doors
  • 4x4
  • Prefer manual transmission but would buy an automatic
  • Prefer stock but would buy something with a mild lift
I know that with some work I could probably create a "clone" of a V2500 but it is valuable to me to get one that was like that from the factory.

Need to be able to drive it home because I don't have a trailer. Willing to fly out and drive it back to Denver.

I am not in any rush, so I'm willing to wait for a great deal. My budget for something in okay shape is up to perhaps $6,000. My budget for something in great shape is up to perhaps $10,000.

If anybody knows of anything out there, please let me know!

These are the types of listings I have saved right now:

1500 again and needs a transmission; but we could make that happen

2500 but a Chevy instead of GMC; also needs transmission but B-port is not that far from Weatherford where Greg Ducato is

How about the Bruin? It checks off all the boxes except GMC. I haven't been driving it lately. Its turn key with low miles and I have done work like new brakes all around, alternator, etc. I will kick myself later for selling a unicorn but to a guy who truly appreciates what it is I could probably let it go. Its better than anything you guys are finding on FB. TBI, 2500, 4x4, barn door, manual with hydraulic clutch, crank windows and a sweet story to go with it. Even better, I am only 2 hours away.

@shima This is a good one, I think I tried to buy it a couple of years ago if I remember correctly.

This is nearly the PERFECT burb, if not already perfect.

The only thing missing is the barn doors

I have reached the point where I am rotating through vehicles because its not possible to drive, tinker, insure, enjoy them all. I am not really a hoarder but its getting that way. Vehicles only deteriorate when not used. I currently have 12 titled vehicles, 3 snowmobiles, a Sno-cat and 5 trailers. Theres a parts suburban and a bus full of square pieces too.

The Bruin is great. Its no beauty queen but the way its optioned made me want to just keep it. I probably wont find another, nobody sells the manual ones. Anyone who is into square bodies knows that its special. But, my clean 1991 V2500 Suburban with the factory 4L80E is special too. I also have a 1991 V3500 crew cab manual that is being neglected and there is an 8.1L with a Howell harness sitting in my shop waiting to get installed. There is no shortage of neat stuff around here. My 1990 K5 with the 454 and manual trans. 9C1 police Caprice. TJ Rubicon. Jeepster Commando. Manx dune buggy. Ram 3500 for towing. You get the picture.

As I acquired vehicles over the years the old guy who says "I have plans for that, its not for sale" always annoyed me because you almost always see those vehicles still sitting a decade later. I try very hard to keep my vehicles running and registered so they are ready to use. I have body parts and a lift that could go on the Bruin, will I ever find the time, who knows.

I sold my M35A2 Deuce and a half with a nice M103 trailer earlier this summer. Clean one with good options. I thought I would always have it. After years of insurance and plates with basically no use I finally let it go.

So, when someone who really likes squares, is actively looking for the Suburban I have, and I have 2, and I am not really using it, I don't want to be that hoarder guy. When you are in the car hobby there is always something cool around the corner. Sometimes I like the chase as much as the builds. I also really like going 4 wheeling, which means less shop time for tinkering.

If you had not posted that you were looking for my exact truck I would keep playing with it. But you did. So, when are you coming to get it and how many parts do you want to take with it? Lets work it out, I'm not a hoarder. (I am, but if I keep saying it maybe I can get past it)

This whole post really hits home with me. Well said, heck I have even thought about selling the Crawlabago recently. I keep it fresh and start/drive it every couple of weeks but it should be getting used more.

Dang man I am really excited for this! Thanks so much!!

If you're willing to wait until after the holidays, that would be the best match for me. I have some cash available but I wasn't expecting to find a match so quickly. We haven't really talked about price so I want to make sure I've got the full amount ready. How about early January?

No problem. We will get things figured out and you can check it out anytime. I am probably only away just a few days right around Christmas. Truck needs a good home and someone to tinker with it. It's a great base for an adventure rig or just head for the mountains as is.
