So I have some axles on my balcony, they are from a CUCV. The D60 has one little problem, the assholes who took the axles out cut the studs for the front right spring pad.

The rear stud was easy because most of it was still there and I just use vise grips and man strength to remove it. The front stud is proving to be a major b!tch. It is flush with the housing, and has defeated every effort I've thrown at it thus far.

At first I drilled it and tried to easy out the mfer, but I broke the easy out. Then I figured I would chisel it out like so many bolts that break off on the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. They always come out with the proper application of a hammer and chisel. Well, even with retarded amounts of PB and WD40, it doesn't want to move. It just gets deformed by the chisel.

So I figure I would order up some heat, and I take a blow torch to the slut. I heat and heat and heat and heat some more. I am starting to run out of patience, and I try to chisel it out. No dice.

So I get on the interweb and order up some left hand drill bits. They show up today, and I get going good below the broken easy out. Get a nice hole drilled in it and try to get a chisel in the hole. Just deforming it more. Try to drill out a little bit bigger hole, and snap the damn drill bit into three f***ing pieces!

I tap in another easy out, and it starts threading in deep, and then gets a good bite, and promptly breaks right the phuck off. So now I have the hole completely plugged up, and I want to rip my skull off my neck.

Please give me good advise. I wish I had a plug in cheap welder so I could weld a nut to the damn thing and get on it with a breaker bar. But, I don't have a welder, know no one that has a portable 110 or 220, and worst of all, I don't know how to weld! If you guys can help me figure it out I will be grateful and will purchase beers for you regularly when we are together.

well i suffered threw it. EDIT ( looks better thanks )

you need a welder . take it to someone if you have to.

weld the nut on super hot and heavy.

let it coll off 100%

heat the area with oxy/act unit not little propane bottle. you need HEAT !

then dump cold water on it to shock it.

then spin it out.

might take 2-3 times but it should come out.

the heat and suden cold snap takes care of the rust and lets them move. and thay were bolts orignaly. not studs. so some a$$hole was real lazy . if it had been my i would have told them to ki$$ my money good bye and or told them i am now due a discount as more work is needed to get ready to install.

I am not taking it to anyone, because it took six of us to get the damn D60 upstairs to my apartment! The 14BFF only took 3 of us. I guess I'll have to rent a welder and have a buddy who knows how to weld hook me up.

so how is that 550 lbs to move around ? :doah::haha::doah::haha:

sorry what i dold ya before here is what i do and 98% time thay come out. 2% go to the machine shop and comeout.

Thats as bad as hauling a broken motorcycle up to my 2nd floor spare bedroom to work on it in the ghetto.....hard core....good job.

Try some melting some parafin wax into the threads before you weld that nut on it too.

Yea, it's a pain in the ass.

When I had my bike I lived on the first floor, and I parked it in the living room.

Good thinking on the wax.

Strip all the parts off the housing. That will make it easier to move around. What about drilling it out? Just get bigger with the bits till there's no bolt left and them run a tap in it.

The 2 broken easy outs that are stuck in it are preventing my drill bits from penetrating it. Those things are so hard that they are just jammed in there and I'm not entirely sure on where to go with it next.

I havent heard that in a while....:D

Get some very small bits , maybe 1/8" , and drill around the easyouts, loosen them up to get them out

Tried that, just rounded off the bit, but I think it was already jacked because I had been using it for other things. I think I'm gonna go get some more bits.

A brand of bit called Artu will drill an ez out. It takes FOREVER because it doesnt drill the metal, it files through it but it does work.

RECON dewd, im fighting with my studs now too, im prayin for ya bud, what a effin PITA....
unfortunately all you can really do now is drill drill drill, or search youtube on (dana 60 stud removal), and you will find a guy extracting a broken stud that was as well flush with the housing.

i DONT understand the logistics of how this guy gets it out, but CHECK IT OUT.

good luck and keep us posted, cuz like i said, im havin same freagin issue.. except i have a little to grab onto, so when rain stops, the torch comes out and we will see what happens.

btw, the original post you started with ISNT long or drawn out my any means, you were just meerly describing the situation. dont listen to these bums about run-ons... hell im runnin on right now.
if anything, reading your 1st post had me ROLLIN ON THE GROUND:haha::haha:

Thanks, I'll check it out.

I am quite the descriptive person, and I type what I think. You guys should hear me talk! Everyone at work thinks I'm so funny, but usually I'm just speaking my mind.
