'90 K5 'Barney'

I’m having trouble figuring out the throttle/TV cable bracket but I finally got it to run!

I lost one of the upper radiator supports so that needs to be located (it’s in the shop somewhere), find KOP for the fuel pump relay, install the upper shroud, fill with water, and throttle cable setup.

Today I sucked out the old gas, plumbed the fuel with a regulator, installed the P/S pump, belt, radiator, fan, put fresh gas in it and fired it up. Open headers! :saweet:
Sorry, no photos, but I’m trying to keep after it. My life has been a shit show for the last year, hearing this thing run was very nice tonight and made me want to check in here and let y’all know I’m still plugging along!

I’m hoping to have it inspected/licensed by the two year anniversary of the broken crankshaft :haha:

Hey man good to hear from you again! Glad you got it fired up, hopefully it’s part of the new direction for ya!

I bought and received the Spectre, I was hoping even though it looked junky that it would be able to be workable but it turns out it’s just junky. I just ordered the TCI piece below and it looks like it should be right. I’ll update when it comes in as to wether or not it works.

Barney is running!!! Crossed a bunch off the list tonight, I spent a bunch of time fooling with that junky Spectre throttle linkage bracket but made it work. Drove it around a bunch and it never skipped a beat, no leaks, plenty of grunt. I’m a happy camper!

It’s not the prettiest and there are some things I’m going to refigure but it’s drivable, horn and exhaust and hopefully it’ll be inspectable!

Thanks! Has anyone had any luck rigging their own exhaust up to headers or am I best off taking it to a shop?

If you have done it, what’d you use to make it happen.

Today after work I spent some time mounting the fuel regulator where I wanted it, just to get it running and see that it worked it was just zip tied in place. Before the exhaust is installed I wanted to hard mount it so that I’d have more room.
There is a nice heat shield that used to shield the manifolds from the body that I ran three self tappers into that secures the bracket to the body, now that I have the headers I believe there is plenty of room that it won’t be an issue but we’ll cross that bridge if we come to it as temperatures rise and drive time increases.

I used a 2.5” kit also. If you don’t get in a hurry, it can work really well

it’s all about layout and prep. If you make good pipe cuts, it will work great. I used a large zip tie to mark the line around the pipe to cut. Then you can just slip it off when you are done.
That way you get a straight cut

I did mine from a Summit Brand builder kit. I was happy with it for the cost. It kinda just depends if you have an exhaust shop that is good near you and that doesn't charge an arm and a leg and that will also do custom exhaust with no cats and such.

I got a quote from a good shop in town of $450, 3in exhaust into two 40 series flow masters, 2.5 tail pipes tucked and dumped at the rear bumper. I think I’m going to go that route. Before hangers and possibly clamps I’m at $327, I like the idea of drop it off and pick it up for $123 more. With my track record doing it myself I’ll have two months minimum in the exhaust work :haha:

I’m holding off till Monday to do it so I can clean up a few more loose ends, I may change my mind but I don’t think I will.

Recommend that think about the flowmasters and if you really want that much noise/drone...

I should've gone with a quieter muffler than the 40 series on my my rig is all I am getting at. I can't start my truck without waking up my daughter if she is napping.

40 series is too loud? I always thought they were to quiet.

Meh, My garage is 200 ft behind the back of my house.
If she wakes up then, it is what it is.
Not really alot of sympathy from a farm kid.

Yeah I have been looking into getting more space...

I have a little concern for the noise but not much, I had this same setup on an 82 LWB and was very happy with it. I am a little concerned with the blazer having drone due to the full cab but I think I’ll manage, I don’t have kids, or really anyone that rides with me other than the dog. It may suck and drone it’s ass off, and I may redo it but I doubt it, this way I won’t need a radio since I won’t be able to hear it! :dunno:

Good bad or indifferent I’ll keep this thread updated.

If anyone has a similar setup on their Blazer I’d be happy to hear opinions before Monday. After that it’s too late lol

Is yours a Blazer? Do you have any videos of it?

If you plan on dumping the exhaust straight out under the bumper don't plan on driving with the back window down. Otherwise, you'll end up with exhaust getting sucked in due to the low-pressure zone at the back of the top.
