I have a 97 K2500 with the 7.4 L Vortec engine. I was driving on the free way at 60 MPH at 2000 RPMs pulling my camper when it just lost power. Wouldn't start back up and then backfired through the intake. The next day I pulled the distributor cap to find out 1 of the 2 screws that hold the rotor to the distributor had backed out and caused it to get into a bind. This caused the top of the distributor to sheer off. I then replaced the distributor after setting to TDC with rotor pointing at #1 it backfired so I tried it 180 Degrees off that. Then tried 1 tooth one way then the other then 180 degrees back the other way then 1 tooth one way then the other. it never fired and I think it jumped timing when the distributor broke. Unless the computer is confused about crank and cam timing that much. IDK Anyone ever experienced this problem or might have a suggestion/solution? TIA

the computer wouldn't keep it from starting if the dist was timed right. All those attempts it was probably right once. If you have @ 100K miles on the engine, it is quit possible the timing chain jumped.
