Progress, Progress......I like progress... :pimp:

Had a chance to bend, notch and tack some tube together on the front engine cage. Pretty cool, that it all looks like it's going to work out.

Don't have time yet this morning before the safety meeting, but a couple of things that refresh myself on and want to run by you guys before I move forward.

One would shock angle. I think that it was something like a couple of degrees back for every inch of lift.

Second. I think that I want to change the front crossmember out. It will work with the winch idea I have...I think. Do you think that Boxing in just the front frame horns from the crossmember forward would be a bad thing/ good thing????

OK...Couple of pics from the weekend, then I need to run upstairs.

Front bar needs to still move forward...maybe an inch

What I'm looking at under the core, so far. Just have some stuff wedged in there until I move forward.

Just tacked in and a lot of work left, but pretty excited :woot::woot::woot:

Are you talking boxing in the front for more strength to mount your winch and stuff.

I had done that on a blazer I owned. Wheeled it for 6 years no frame cracks or anything. It was boxed from the crossmember forward.

Actually I took that crossmember out because I moved my steering box and it was in the way so I built a new tube crossmember.

As far as shocks go, as close to vertical as you can get them and still have the travel you need.

Mike,

Are you SURE that vertical bar in your wheelwell is going to clear the real tires under compression (including turning left or right)?? :dunno:

It's hard to tell from the photos, but it seems like it might give you headaches later on.... angle the shocks slightly inward (torward the engine) for clearance under articulation also.... a lot of stuff looks great with the axle in it's normal position, but suddenly looks all wrong when the suspension starts getting crossed-up. I've been bitten by that one a few times....

Thanks Eric. That is what I was talking about. I still don't know if I'll have enough room between the frame rails with the winch and a plate, but it is what I was thinking so far. Hopefully the send out the winch today.

Its looking really good, sweet work as always.

Thanks Heath...:waytogo:

Good eye, my man...

I had actually cut two of those bars last night. The first was a strait tube with a slice off the bottom. It almost covered the entire plate. Not a big deal if I need to use that one though. I'll just weld a nut on the inside of the concave piece and install the bolt from the other side.

I bent up the other to clear everything on the plate area and I might have hurt myself in two areas. Don't really know yet without some more string lines. The first was what you caught, with the tire and maybe a rub issue. The second was the way the shock angle might end up with the curved bottom tube. It looked last night like it might push the top of the shock a couple of degrees out towards the tire.

Hopefully I can get out there tonight again and start to drop some lines. I really need to move that front bar forward a couple of inches so it clears the water neck and tack it in. It will hold everything a lot better..

For the help, I give you a smiling puppy. Got this pic this morning. :D

I think if your 69 frame width is similar to my 83 you should be fine based on the looks of it. I have a few vertical bars off the frame like that without any issues. Unless you are going to use some huge 42s or something. I have 36s and there is plenty of room during articulation and steering.

EDIT: ALthough mine don't keep going out like yours, my bars are more vertical. Have you considered making that bar more like an "S"? It could go out, then up, then bend back out again toward the top.

Yep, sure have Heath.

I wanted to keep them as strait as possible, but if they need something, to the bender they will go. I might actually bend another bar that goes from that point, back across the firewall, (above the dizzy, but I shouldn't have a problem) and over to the other side. I have some plans for some gussets and a couple dimples in there too. That will really make that area stout.

I'll know a lot more when I drop some lines. I was just so excited that I have some kind of structure up there, I had to post up pics. :o Once I finish with the tube here, there are only two more places for it. The seat bars and rear shocks. Oh, I can see the light.....:D

Edit: IIRC I have 24 3/4" between the frame rails now.

Damn that looks so good! Wish I had some fab skills like that...makes mine look rather boring! Great looking pup as well...I don't think you will have to many problems with scrubs around your place. My brother has two English Mastiffs and nobody touches his stuff. Great dogs messy wet mouths though ha! Great Work

Looks awesome Mike! This is going to be one very stout, very heavy first gen when you're finished! :waytogo:

If you build these trucks too light they can tip over at almost any moment..... Hmm, surprised you didn't know that! :haha:

On another note....Very Sorry to hear about your dog, Sean. :frown1: That just incredibly sucks and is a very tough thing to go through.

Give me a shout if you want to soak your tears with someone via phone over a lot of beers. I'm a pretty good listener and a very good drinker... ;)

Thanks Mike, I know you were in my shoes not very long ago man. Crappy place to be. If I had a way to call you from home I'd do it but we still don't have Internet or home phone service, and I think I might get in trouble getting sauced in public. Let alone driving home after... I fully intend on visiting a bottle or eight tonight though! My Facebook messenger should work from home though :D

Uuuummm, I do believe that would classify me as an alc.......

OK, I'm in... Give me a couple of hours though.. :D

anything for a brother..:wink1:

You're good people! I've started btw. My first beer is being accompanied by cheddar jalapeño cheetos if anyone cares. It's not so bad.
