I can eat more than I look like, but I can't eat as much as I used too thats for sure. I'm 6'1" and ~180 lbs right now, not exactly a lightweight.

Another thing you'll need is springs, preferrably the kind for coilovers, but coil springs would work too.

Hey i wanna come too! But just for steak, beer, and emotional support for when heath and eric have 18 hours of arguments over many many things... Hehe :D

Mike,

I noticed that your brake booster is missing both support rods.

There is a round one that comes off the top of the bracket (behind the booster) and another stamped one that comes off near the prop valve and anchors down low on the cowl. Lots of stress on the cowl where the brake assembly bolts up...it will be important to add those back in before too much longer to make sure you still have room.

I took a look at this and I couldn't find where they would hook up. I also don't remember ever having any. There really isn't anything on the FW to show where they would go either. Maybe one of those hidden "Unique" things. Maybe not. :dunno:

Couple of pics.

Didn't get a lot done this weekend. Sat morning was sitting at the front of the rig until noon figuring out how I'm going to do this. In the afternoon, I helped my neighbor make some rear hangers for his Furd. Sunday was all about the storms. Never even seen the inside of the garage yesterday.

The winch fits. :woot: Tight, but it's in there. A little love and it will be nice.

AAA840038-1024.jpg

At that time I made a drawing with all of the key areas. Should have her knocked out if I can just follow the drawing. Please ask before you copy this...:waytogo:

AAA840057-1024.jpg

So after I had the drawing all marked out. I cut out the front CM and started to fab up the new.

AAA840049-1024.jpg

That was about it on mine for the day. Pic of the neighbor..

Chicken before the egg??? I know that I'm going to need to install some gussets on the press now. Should I dimple them before I fix this...

And a parting shot...

Mike,

Sorry to post up such an ugly photo in the midst of all your beauty-shots.... but here is the only one I've got that shows the upper and lower reinforcement rods.

The attachment points are pretty clear to see on the firewall, and they just use the existing bolts that hold the existing booster bracketry.

The upper rod is a round solid rod with flattened slotted ends. The lower one is a stamped sheetmetal piece.

The winch looks GOOD! What is the dimension from end-to-end? It looks like you are sneaking the ends inside the C-channel of the frame to get it to fit. That isn't good news for me, since I don't have that sort of space anymore.

Thanks for the pic and the props Guys..

Greg, as it sits I might have 1/16 on each side. I was pretty excited it just fit in there without some flap disk motivation.

Here is the PDF for the Zeon 12,000.

With your double frame it would take a little boxing. :pimp:

Do ya want me to draw you a pic of how it would work? I'm pretty crafty with the ol' pen and paper... :haha:

24.25".... got it. Save those Leonardo DaVinci drawings for your own oracle notebook!!! Don't forget to sign and date them so they can be authenticated later on! :D

Lol, will do.. :D

Not a lot of progress but I did cut some metal for the front. It was a waiting game between me coming up with ideas and actually doing them all Sunday.

Don't really know the full plan yet, but I do know that this entire thing is going to take a lot of little pieces to make it all one.

Couple of pics..

Surgery starting on that bad front drivers side hanger.

AAA852137.jpg

Bolted in the rear for the time being. Of all the times that I wanted to be a hair big on my bolt holes, I was not. I ended up with a 1/16" smaller opening between the framerails than what was existing. So, I had to do a little flap disk work on the sides. I still need to cut out/box for the bottom pulley. Not much for clearance right now. Maybe 1/2".

AAA852143.jpg

AAA852142.jpg

And some plates cut to size for the frame horns. Still need to figure out what or how I'm going to mount the bumper, but I think that it will be some of those "A lot of small pieces to make one".

AAA852141.jpg

Then I figured that I'm going to need something on the inside of the rails. It looks like I'm going to box this thing out by the time I'm done. I figure that I can mount my recovery points in between these two plates.

They should end up looking like Ryoken"s, but be in double shear..

clevis3001.jpg

Then I'll cover it with the outer plate. Some big bolts through all of it mounted to a lot of it... :D

AAA852144.jpg

It's not very tight at this point. I want to come off the inner plate with an extension on the top, like the bottom, so I have more to weld to. When I make the full box that will sit in the framerail.

That's it so far.

Looks great! You might want to think about drain holes in the front of the horns as I'm sure water/dirt would love to collect in there.

Good point, Glenn. I'll see what I can do..:waytogo:

The 69-72 section has been pretty dead lately. I should probably wait until the pieces are all perfect and tight, but I think that you can get the idea that I have going on in my small head. Never really seen it before, that is until you get some strait metal in the horns, but these things were hammered. I've been working the frame along with the new double box system to get it nice and tight. A lot more work is needed, but it's a start. Never really thought about it also, there is going to be a ton of stuff in and around these things. Cage support, front crossmemeber, winch, recov points, bumper attachments, behind the bumper supports, steering box and so on.

So, I'll give you guys a couple of pics of the very slow progress so far on the front. This is the time that I really wish I had a plasma. Lots of little pieces so far, and a lot more to make by the time I'm done.

it should be awesome cool when it's all done. :D

I don't think it will be strong enough :haha::haha::haha:

I really like where your winch is, didn't at first but now seeing how its going to be in there and not really out in front of the truck I like it a lot

If you aren't putting a bottom plate on there I think I would but make it removable and not part of the winch mount.

You will need to access that area to get it cleaned out, although with that much metal it will probably take till the end of Fordums next story before it will rust through

I have a plan so far to install a plate on the bottom that should bolt up in at least 6 spots, all from the bottom.

What do you think....feet forward? If so, I need to read up on clocking the handle for the free spool.

If all plays out like I think it will, nothing will be burned in to each other. Should be pretty easy to take everything back out and cleaned again.

:haha::haha::haha:

If it last 1/2 that long, we should be good.. :D

That's awesome! Nothing to fancy... I like that.
I got all that stuff... but not the brake for a press. That would be super handy on the farm. Might have to talk to my Father in law about buying one of those!

Feet forward for sure, its the best way to mount em, all the stress is on that huge structure you just built, plus it spreads out all along the frame.

Feet down, all the stress is on 4 bolts

Its super handy, I have one too, very cool tool, in the process of making a dedicated press for it though it would be nice to not have to lug it in and out of the press, its kind of heavy

That would be nice. I hate changing the thing around from the brake, back to the press and back again. Those new plates that I bought from Swag are no joke either. They make the ones that came with the press look like they came from a kids tool kit.
