After parking the Blazer for about a year, I have income and nothing but time to fix it up. Before it was parked, can't remember exactly what called for this, but the old dipstick came out for replacement. Picked up generic brand replacement from O'Reilly and it would NOT go in despite the best persuasions of me, my buddy, and a mallet. All 3 local auto part stores carry only the same generic brand unless I want to drop like $100 on one of those stubby flexible ones. So that my next purchase is my final one, do yall have any recommendations? Links are appreciated!!

I always slip bolt in the top of the tube, and use a 12 oz ball peen

Get a factory dipstick & tube? They aren't expensive.

What about trying the dealer for the newest (last year) application that had your motor? I put a nice, long "T" handled dipstick on my 454 from a much later model truck.

That's a good idea, i might try for a 91 blazer instead of an 89. I'd be hesitant to go beyond that because I'm not sure if the oil pans were changed on the 90s tbi trucks to match any frame differences, but if i could confirm that they're the same I'd bite.

10149605 is the part number for the gm dip stick and tube. I couldn't find one. that said even the GM dip stick will need persuading to install.

Dip stick for WHAT ? Engi n.v e or trans .

I might have a decent used sbc pass side unit on my bench right now .

I don't think the dipstick from the gmt400 trucks is radically different. Check a local pull and pay junkyard. I bet you get what you need for under 20 bucks.

Aren't all the later ones a bolt in/no press fit deal? Here's the one I put in my L31 crate, I don't recall having to do any persuasion. IMO the long one in this pic is the one you want. The earlier versions, and car, are much shorter and harder to reach in a truck.

I went to a local wrecking yard, all their pulled engines had dipsticks, think I paid less than $10. Not sure I ever found the right one by GM part number, but did pay a pretty penny for the wrong one online.

I like to use G-series full size van ones. Little tweeking and you get them up next to the rad . Super easy to get with hood up .

I plan on taking a trip to the local yard this weekend to snag some vortec heads so I may just have to grab a tube there, thanks guys.
